Love the video of them eating out your hands. It's so cute!

How are yours on the laminate? We have it here and they seem to be okay with it when they are on the floor.

Looking forward to reading more about your babies and seeing more vids. How are you recording them? Phone?

Some idiot deleted my old YouTube account, so none of the videos before this thread will work now. :(

An update...

So, since the last update a guinea pig from Becklen came to live with us. Bailey arrived still skittish having lived alone after giving poor Helen a run for her money whenever she tried to pair him with some of her own boys.

Bailey has been living here for over a month and has settled into his position as being the "pretty boy" of the group. Well, he was the pretty boy until I gave his peruvian hair a "special haircut" because I felt his hair was covering my hands from advancing on him and he was startling from surprise.

I threatened to Susie_q about using him as a duster when I first met him and his mop of hair. She wasn't too thrilled to hear my plans for him, but now I think you'll all agree that I've settled on a less humiliating career path for him. He's now an Emma warmer :)

Things have cooled down in the cage enough that I'm now happy to let the pigs have floortime again. Four boars sharing one pellet bowl must be a good sign, after all?

Free-range time means more room to torture the minds of my little piggums who have become lazy by having their food given to them. Today they were given Box O' Paper And Treats, which was basically an old hay box stuffed with shredded newspaper and laced with lettuce and kale.

Note: I'm aware that my boys aren't fail proof so the majority of the times I give them have plenty of escape routes should one pig decide to become a brat to the other pigs. This box had 3 escape routes.

Bailey didn't get it. He couldn't understand why I didn't just GIVE him the veggies and stood at his normal "feeding spot" in the cage and watched me while I told him how dumb he was being and tapped the box to point it out to him. He's lucky he's pretty and cute.

In another room...

Mimic seems to have picked a new snuggle spot. It use to be beneath the coffee table but recently he's changed it to wherever my feet are which is now normally under the table where I set up my computer.

The problem is that the floor is laminate and he likes to pee where he's napping and that doesn't make for a clean and pleasant-to-pick-up-pig. So today I gave Mimic his own bed.

No good pictures of Cashew today... if he's not stuffing his face or hidden he's too busy trying to stay away from me in case I'm hiding a syringe full of medication. One day he'll get a g-force "guinea pig language to english" ear piece and we'll be able to talk through our differences and the world will smile again... I'll also be sure to stress to him that I don't want to eat him. Except for when he's causing drama in the cage... but during those nights I don't want to eat him so much as... joking.

They do fine on the laminate, Koda just doesn't like to walk on it although he can get to where he wants to. They don't do so well when startled and seem to do a mid-air-run before actually starting to move. I try to not startle them during floor time by talking as I approach but sometimes I guess they forget how big I am and off they go.

They are really really lovely.

Gorgeous guinea pigs!

What a bummer about you tube. That's so annoying. How does something like that happen?

that does suck losing all your old vids,
The boys are sweeter than ever and i love the new addition he is adorablex),
Nice to see some pics of you too i have only ever seen your crazy pics lol.
The boys look well xxxxxx

I'm preparing to go to the emergency vet, waiting on my boyfriend coming to collect us.
I can't stop shaking and looking into the carrier beside me.

I found bailey in the cage and he didn't move or run away from me. thought he was dead and picked him up and he squeeked and stayed limp he isn't moving and he isn't responding and i don't think he'll make it.

going to vet and don't expect to come back with him :(

please please think of us

At Christmas I lost Cashew when he failed to recover from surgery.

On Early into Thursday morning, I lost Koda my one year old snuggly boy.

The progress of his illness was very quick...
http://www.guinealynx.info/forums/viewtopic.php?t=55607

I want to say a very fond thank you to Susie_q who got out of her bed at 4am first to help take me to HER E-Vet and when Koda died as she arranged for Dan to wake up... she later came to cuddle me, drink tea with me, listen to me rant and cry and helped me to bury Koda in her garden next to Patches, with whom Koda had a brief boarly love affair with.

I am incredibly jilted, and I know I'll feel worse on Sunday when the three pigs I am temporarily caring for will go to Thistle Cavies and I'll come home to a house which is so use to containing the wheeks and demands of four and five pigs will be full of two...

I need time to come to terms with losing two big personalities so soon. I'm sad and I think it will take me a while to recover. Koda died so young and it wasn't fair and now when I whistle I am faced with silence and not a chorus of Koda screaming.

I hurt, a lot. My worst fear was to lose two piggies close together and it's happened and I feel dreadful.

Oh I am really sorry for your loss! Cuddle your two and know that your gorgeous piggies could not have a better piggy mummy

Mimic has started licking the correx where Koda died. I sat in the cage to "comfort" and fill the cage up (it's big enough that my fat ass can sit in there and they can still move around) because it looks so empty.

Bailey kept approaching me like "what the hell..." and Mimic seemed delighted that he had something to run beneath (my legs) When I left their cage Bailey, the little sh..., started popcorning where I was sitting.

I want to think he was happy that he could smell me on the ground... I think he was more happy to have that space back.

Foster, Bailey and Mimic are all on high doses of Baytril. I'm paranoid they'll get sick and keep listening to their chests. Today they're going to the vet.

I'm so so sorry to hear that you lost 2 - it's never easy but it's just seems even more unfair to lose 2 in a short space of time.

Sending big hugs to you

Sophie

I am so sorry that you two of your lovely boys so close to each other; it is so frightening when they go downhill so very quickly, and there is nothing you can do!

Oh Emma HUGS to you honey. That's so very very sad to hear.

What an awful thing to happen. RIP to your two boys and I hope things run smoothly for you from now on hun.

Thinking of you
xx

I think I'm done for piggy illnesses for the year - or I'd better be!

I'm just back from the vet who patiently listened to the boys chests: Foster, Bailey and Mimic's just in case something is going to start up suddenly. They are all on a high dose of Baytril but I wanted the re-assurance of them having seen a vet. They're going back for a follow-up once the course of antibiotics is over for a check up before I'll relax.

fingers crossed for an illness free year for you! Hope they are better at taking the baytril then furby! she is being a naughty minx... rolleyes

Lovely, I've managed to perfect the art of "injecting something foul into a pigs mouth". I do a whole grab - position - scoosh ninja move.

And to top it all off, Cashew's emergency vet bill came through yesterday. It's the most expensive euthanasia I've ever seen before. Great. Great. Great.

ouch! no much more to say apart from i am sometimes sure vets rip you off!

Koda must have missed being able to steal food from Cashew's mouth. While I was uploading new pigtures, I came across some old pigtures of baby Koda, baby Cashew and pigtures of Koda and Cashew's introduction on the bed.

Cashew "I asked for yum yums... that is not a yum yum in the background!"

Today, my group of four has simmered into a quiet group of two. One good thing is that Bailey has become highly interactive with me recently when before he would flee at the sight of me or become easily startled.
SAM_0330.jpg

Foster has also been exceptionally brave recently. He's started coming to the bars to get his veggies instead of hiding from me until I drop them into his cage.

"whut?"
SAM_0340.jpg

Shark ATTACK!
SAM_0347.jpg

Shortly after I used the grab-squirt-shove lettuce in face technique to give the pigs their baytril doses...
"Not cool" says Mimic.
SAM_0348.jpg

I sat in the cage to spend some quality time with my two boars, and to apologise for squirting baytril into their mouths unexpectedly. Mimic thought it was amazing - a new human to hide under!
SAM_0356.jpg

Bailey seemed confused - why was Miss fat bum taking up his sleeping space? The little darling popcorned in the spot where I had been sitting when I vacated the cage. I want to think he did it because he was happy the megazorb smelt of me... I think he was just happy to have the space back again.

In quarantine from the three boars are two beautiful little girlie pigs, brought here on Thursday by our very own wibster1.
SAM_0379.jpg

The girls have been enjoying the many expensive veggies I brought in "to make Bailey and Mimic feel better". Normally I stick to a strictly lettuce-based diet with a few "salad toppers" such as green pepper, rarely carrot and other veggies. They timed their arrival perfectly.

Aw I loved the photo's. It's good to see foster being so confident :)!

Mimic looks like he enjoyed his new human hide. I'm glad Bailey is coming on too. How much longer are they on the baytril for?

The girlies are gorgeous... are they in the same room as the boys? I think it is amazing how laid back your boys are!

I would so pignap mimic in a second... hehe xx

I love the baby photo's :)... RIP little men, such gorgeous boys!

They are some lovely photos of your boars! Their cage looks huge how big is it?

My big boar cage is a 4x3 C&C cage. It use to be a 4x4 but I downsized it when Cashew passed on.

The boys are on Baytril for ten days. They're tolerating it quite well, thankfully, and haven't lost their appetites which is good. They have a check up at the vet on Friday to be sure that what caused Koda to die wasn't contagious.

The girls are in the living room in quarantine conditions so I don't have to put them on Baytril too. This is moreso a precaution, I had originally planned to have them in the same room so I would only have to keep one room at a stable temperature but I'd rather be safe than sorry.
