It's so great to hear about your experiences and initial worries - I'm taking my 5-month old Boris for a piggy dating session next week and I'm worried about what they'll think of him cos he's still skittish and doesn't like being picked up. I'm so worried he won't find a friend but really really hoping he does :)

Stop worrying all piggys are different . The rescue won't judge they will be as keen as you to find him that special friend . I have found it difficult to find a friend for Stew but there are so many unwanted piggys out there if you keep trying eventually a bond will happen. I only went to a fosterer and was amazed how many she was caring for its so sad. Really has opened my eyes.
Good luck and hope Boris is successful first time

I didn't realise that male pigs would live together ? Dougal was living with his father and he was attacked, got his ears shredded.

So pleased to see them getting on so well. They are both

Yes, boys normally only in pairs. It helps to get them bonded together. That's why dating at rescues is such a good service as it takes the stress out of bonding at home.

Boars of all ages can be bonded with a character compatible friend, but it takes time and experience - and sometimes a number of "dates".

By far the safest place is one of our recommended rescue that offers this service, as you come home with a new friend only if there has been success and the bonding with one or more likely candidates happens at the rescue under expert supervision. That minimises any risk for you of ending up with more boys that won't get on.

I am very sorry that your two boys didn't get on; I assume that they fell out when Dougal hit the teenage hormones. Sadly, it is a myth that related piggies don't fall out - the key is character compatibility and not relationship.

I couldn't really believe the number of pigs and bunnies looking for homes at the rescue I went to. I'd never heard of dedicated small animal rescues until I found the forums.

I must admit that once my new boy has settled in and has accepted that humans can be friendly and do provide all manner of tasty treats and affection; I'm wondering if I should go for a second pair. I have spare accommodation, I have the time and I could afford it... Not sure my husband would be quite so keen on the idea..... I'm still having a good think about it.

There were a number of babies being treated for ringworm when we went to Windwhistle recently to find a friend for our Cupcake - I wonder whether Brunel is one of them? We could only have a quick peek through the door of the shed, as they were still in quarantine.

You might well end up adopting more guineas! We started off with 2, then 3, now 4 is our usual number!

I'm really pleased that your two are happy together - they look so sweet!

Thank you Katherine. I'm really pleased they seem to be getting on so well! I was cuddling the youngster this evening whilst Telford was running round the hutch calling for him - young Brunel was chirruping back to Telford in my arms.

Brunel is one of the 'ringworm' babies. There were 6 small pigs in two hutches each with an older boy in with them.

Aww your boys are adorable x sooo cute! I hope they continued to be good friends x

I got Dougal from a rescue. They got him from another rescue who ( putting this delicately ) was overstretched and not able to care for the animals properly. I think the bullying began at the first rescue but nothing was done about it, hence the injuries. The rescue I got him from separated them and I was asked if I woud take him as he was special needs. Took me several months to get him back to full health. I didn't take his father as I planned to neuter Dougal so he could live with the 2 girls I had then.
