So I need to do some boar dating with Romano after he fell out with Arthur.

My question is, does boar dating equally well for older piggies. I really want a guinea pig who has been through his teenage phase and are 1.5 years and older so I can be sure there won't be another huge falling out once one hits puberty.

Is this possible though? Everyone seems to reccomend dating a baby boar with an older but I worry about the baby growing up and wanting the dominant role thus making history repeat.

Oh good, because I really want an older piggy and not a baby boar. :)

Thank you.

It absolutely can. In fact usually once they are through the hormonal phase pairing is easier. My Merry was 5 when we took him dating and yes we came home with a baby boar but I would have happily had whoever he was good with.

There's lots of single boars out there and often the older ones get over looked in favour of babies so I'm sure he'll find himself a friend. x

Piggies of either gender can be rebonded at all ages. If you want to go for an adult mate, you'd preferably look for a rescue that offers full residential dating and not just quick dating. Generally, the fall out rate between newly bonded adult boars is very low because they do no longer suffer from hormonal spikes to the degree the subadults do. In that case, it is well worth travelling further afield for best results. So far, even the most difficult forum boars have usually found a congenial mate latest by the second round of dating (candidates 4-6 ).

Occasionally, a very dominant boar will only accept a baby, but when he finally does, he will stick by his choice.

Absolutely, we took fuzzy last June and he was 2 then. I came back with tyler, my avatar piggy who was 6 weeks at the time and it's worked well because fuzzy has shown him his piggy manners and who's boss. Tyler tried to hump him and he just gets thrown off lol, put back in his place. :))

I already have a rescue that I'm visiting so I'm hoping she'll get a older boar there, if not I plan to email another nearby one. If not I may have to try and do a piggy train because I can't drive myself.

Romano is a very chilled out piggy and only attacked Arthur back once he had a few bites it seems so I don't have much worry. He happily chats to my other two boars despite not being able to see them. I think it should go easily but yes I definitely want an older in case the baby grows and ends up attacking poor Romano again.

That's what I was hoping. I'm going to try and find an older boar whose happy to be submissive. Romano is a very chilled out dominant and only rumbles but never humps. He just seems to want a friend to play with.

I'd like to give an overlooked adult boar a home. =)

I suppose I should add I just celebrated having Romano for a year last month and he was around 10-14weeks when I got him.

I think the attack from Arthur to Romano was the last act of him trying to take the dominant position. Very sad to think just last month I was celebrating have them together for a year. :(
