So some of you may have seen my "meet Jesse" thread, where I mentioned I was planning on getting him neutered, but after contacting a number of vets and finding out that no one around me does guinea pig neuters very often, if at all, my family and I starting discussing whether we had the financial, time and space available to take on another boar instead of opting for neutering. We decided that was the best plan for us and once I saw my new little ones picture, I just fell in LOVE. Welcome Beckett, he is about 9 months old, his previous owners had him in the smallest cage ever, to say it was a glorified litter box, would be calling it big and he had lived in there with no HAY his whole life, I couldn't even fit him through the door, I had to take the top off of the cage to get him out. He is the most scared pig I have ever seen with the saddest eyes, it breaks my heart. I only took a quick pic, so it's a bit blurry and dark.

How can people be so mean to any animal, but especially sweet innocent guinea pigs and these were adults, not children, they should know better. Sorry to rant, but between these owner's and Jesse's previous two owners, I'm a bit fed up with people at the moment.

I will give him a few days to settle and then do a through health check, but from a distance, I don't hear any wheezing and his eyes are clear and his skin looks okay too.

This will be my first true boar bonding, so wish me luck, lol. IMAG0454.webp

I wish I could hug you! Queso has the same story, came from two horrible owners. One was a three year old girl who tormented him and another was a friend who never had time for him... he never got daily veggies or anything!

Your little Beckett has the cutest eyes! While it may not be fun, you should do the health check ASAP. Most especially his teeth, which could be overgrown from not having hay. An exotic vet will be able to check his back teeth, so you should schedule him for a vet check up too. Then once his examination, let him settle in for a few days and bribe your way into his heart with veggies. <3

I would suggest Oxbow multi-vitamins for a daily treat for this little guy. I wish I had known about the sooner, because I think Queso not getting the vitamins he needed at an early age led him to develop his very bad arthritis now.

Little Beckett is in VERY GOOD hands! I'm so glad this little pig has such a loving family! <3

Thanks, I know I worry about his teeth too, but he was just so terrified, that I was worried about scaring him to death, he only came home yesterday, he seems a bit calmer today, so I may try tonight to give him a once over, I usually do a check when they come home and I have timid girls, but none have seemed so overwhelmed.

I'm glad Queso has such a caring family now, I saw your thread, what cute boys you have. I have never been able to get my pigs to eat the new Oxbow treats, my previous pigs liked the old version of the vitamin C tablets.
