Boris is a bit of a sickly pig and I put that firmly down to him being bred for Pets at Home, he's had one UTI in the year I've had him and the vet prescribed Baytril and that cleared it up nicely.

However last night he started squeaking when he wee'd again so I placed white cloth in the houses to check the colour of his wee and it looks a little darker then usual but hardly a noticable change. Then this morning he squeaked for a particularly long time so I checked him and the spot he wee'd in and there was what I think to be boar glue, and it had no lumps or grit and was very sticky!

Is it normal for boar glue to cause pain when it's passed? If not could this be sludge? I'm taking him to the vet tomorrow about this as well but wanted peoples opinions :)

Poor Boris, painful weeing should be seen by the vet as there are a number of reasons that he might be in pain. Did the sticky substance harden into a rubbery white stuff (like glue)? He may have a sperm rod that needs removing. A sperm rod is when a rod of sperm (boar glue) has solidified inside his penis, boys usually manage to remove this by them selves. Sludge tends to be... well, like sludge and can be gritty. Ask your vet if they will show you the correct way to check his (Boris) penis and clean anything off that shouldn't be there. Boys get all sorts of detritus in and around the penis. My ZumZum manages to get hairs wrapped round his and I have to remove them. There is sometimes a build up of smeg(?) around the base of the penis that can harden and cause pain. So, it's good that you are taking him to the vet tomorrow. Good luck little Boris.

It could be a sperm rod, but also the very beginnings of a UTI - with the wildly changing temperatures lately, urinary tract infections are currently not all that rare, and they do not necessarily start with bloody pee. Good that you are having him seen soon!

Just wanted to add my two boys are bred from pets at home (what a mistake that was!) and they are very sickly too, seem to have endless problems with them such as ring worm. One of my boys, Sooty, was sold to me with ring worm so what does that tell you about their stock! Would not ever purchase a pig from there in the future. x

Vet said it was a UTI again and thankfully not a sperm rod! He also palpatated the abdomen and stomach area and couldn't feel anything out of the ordinary :)

It was rubbery, and I felt it between two tissues and there was no grit (thankfully!) And he always has a dirty penis :( I clean it weekly but he always manages to get it smelly and mucky again :<> And hair?! Wow, that must take some skill on his part! :)p

It was a UTI thakfully, Boris seems quite susceptible to them unfortunately :(

I regret adopting from Pets at Home too, but Boris looked so sad in his little adoption tank that I couldn't say no! (And my OH guilted me so much that I cried and literally couldn't not adopt him!) My boys had ringworm recently too - what a nightmare! I'm now constantly paranoid they're going to re-catch it! But I'm the same, never going to buya pet from there again (unless it's in a sorry state, in which case I won't be able to stop myself mallethead )

And Amanda1801, it made me giggle too - mind of a child!

Thank you all for the help, I panicked for a bit it was sludge! Thankfully not :))
