Lilly
Adult Guinea Pig
My teenage boar Peanut Butter has for quite some time now made a nuisance of himself by constantly chasing and mounting the adult boy Hazelnut. Hazelnut has been very tolerant constantly shrugging off PB and moving away from him or just laying there waiting for PB to give up. Recently PB, who is now 7 months old, stepped up this perpetual chasing and mounting to the point that Hazelnut had no peace and I got quite worried. I started giving Hazelnut more frequent cage outings to get him away for a while (which also meant I had to ignore PB's cries as he hates being away form his cage mate). The suddenly one morning I noticed Hazelnut constantly chasing and mounting PB, which he had never done before, and PB squealing in protest. This went on all day while I kept an anxious watch. That evening I took out Hazelnut for his lap time and noticed all one side of him was wet and sticky with white stuff. Yup, boar glue! Guess this is what finally made Hazelnut have enough and turn the tables on PB!
Anyway had to give Hazelnut a bath. But what to use? I use cetaphil cleanser for the grease gland, so tried that on the boar glue. Now Hazelnut hates baths, getting that glue off was not going well, so taking too long and Hazelnut constantly running up my arm and onto my shoulder to get out of the sink. Eventually I just kept him on my shoulder while I worked the cleanser in over and over again, then would lower him into the sink to spray water on. I got very wet and that glue was just not coming out and Hazelnut was getting very distressed. In the end I at least had it softened enough that I could pull it off his hair with baby comb, baby brush and my nails - it took all 3 methods to get it all off, along with a few yelps from the poor guy. What an ordeal.
Rather a long post, but my query is how does one go about getting boar glue off without hurting and distressing the piggy?
Hopefully, though, I won't need to do it again. Since that awful day, no one is mounting any one!
