Boar Grease Gland Questions

What exactly is excreted from the grease gland? Is there a purpose for the excretion? Does it dry hard & crusty?

Hello CavyMom58 I think the grease gland is for scent marking - it is a greasy like secretion - sometimes it does get crusty and the crust can be painful to remove - I use coconut oil to soften it and then it can be removed.

I leave it overnight, comb it through then wash it off. Washing it off is optional but my boy is very well behaved when having a bum bath.
