just wondering if anyone can help clear up an issue i just had with boris. he has been out in the run after the girls went in, and he was dragging his butt around while rumbling. I'm guessing because he can smell them in there and he was scent marking. anyway, when i got him out to put back in his hutch, he has some hair poking out :red so i gently pulled and his penis slowly emerged, the hair was wrapped tightly around the end of it :o i have no idea if this could have happened just with him being so randy in the run, whether it happened when he got in with the girls a week or so ago (it looked like pennys hair) or whether its been there from when he was still being used as a breeder.

i wrapped him tightly in a towel, and propped him up on my lap while i very gently went to work untangling his bits. it was quite a lot of hair, and the smell was revolting. everything was a healthy pink colour which i figured was a good thing, but it was very very tight. i managed to completely untangle it, and rinsed it a little with clean fresh water and it popped back in. its the first 'boar issue' i have ever had to deal with. i was so scared i was going to hurt him but he was good as gold :)

is this something that is likely to happen again? is it a common thing for a boar to get? i dont know how to make his penis protrude to check it properly in future, the only way i did this time was when i pulled the hair out.

:(|) You haven't seen my two intact Aby's...;)

to be fair, all my 4 boys had their spuds off ASAP lol Boxy didnt have any when I got him, and the two Daves were booked in xmas eve - merry christmas boys! lol Jeff was knocked out for a dental exam, so I got them to castrate him then too!

You've done a wonderful job love!
It's not pleasant but i'd say you've saved him from an infection :{
read the link to GL it's really good :)
Paws crossed that Boris doesn't have anymore boar issues again!

wow, thank you for that link, very useful (and graphic :o) i did google allsorts trying to find information but struggled to find anything of any help. i hope hes feeling better today, i will check his bits again when i get back from work this afternoon. thanks for everyones help, hugely appreciated :)

I check my boys penis every few days . I have often found bits of hay wrapped around the penis and the odd bit of shaving or hair,. Its a good thing to do regularly. Your boy will get used to it. I have the technique down to a fine art and can pop it out very quickly")") This all sounds a bit rude. :(|)

ive had 2 boars before, and i never knew to check them :red bad piggy mummy!

will be heading out to check boris once it stops raining, so miserable at the moment. hopefully he will have happy bits and they wont be all tangled and messy....fingers crossed. hope i can get it out ok :red its even embarrassing talking about it, pleased my OH isnt home when i do it lol. if i knew this before we got a boar, i cant say we would have one! have now fully read up on imapction and penis problems, so should be fully informed when (if) something does go wrong in future.

Even after all these years I still find out new things about piggies and how to care for them. Once you get used to tending to your boys 'privates'") you will find its just part of your care routine. One of my boys suffers impaction and I check him daily. He is such a good boy and just lets me get on with it..
