Hi,
Here’s my situation - I have 3 boar pups at 2 weeks old so I know I need to separate them from their mother next week, however will they be able to go in with their father (who has recently been neutered)? How do I know if it’s not working out. He’s currently in the cage next to them on his own so can smell and hear them. I’ve read about separating pups from mum on the forum topics, but I don’t know about this particular situation.
I’m pretty sure they’re all boys, which is shame as mum Rosie will be left on her own for a few more weeks.
Any advice would be gratefully received.
Thanks

Hi! Stage little meetings through the bars (you can use the cage top on the floor) so dad and his sons can meet nose to nose and interact every day to boost acceptance. Put the babies back as soon as mum gets worried and starts looking for them.

Here is our bonding guide with lots of social interactive behaviours, so you know what to look out for and what is not good. Before bonding, wipe dad and sons with the same soft rag to mingle their scent. Bond in neutral territoy to prevent dad from seeing them as intruders.

Thank you for posting this and congrats on the newborns. I will be facing the same issue in the next couple months with a pregnant piggie and separated papa. This helped me tons! Can't wait for the birthday to come around; papa is lonely here waiting for a son or two as he is away from all the girls now (though he really gets hours of attention from the humans around him :-)).

Best wishes on the new ones and parents!

Thank you both for your advice, I’ve started some of the tips you’ve given me. Fingers crossed.
