So my boar Alfie got neutered about two weeks ago. He got an abscess this week and the vet gave him Baytril (I know that isn't the best) but today he wasn't 100% himself so I tried feeding my girls salad so Alfie can have some poop soup as he had some diarrhoea, we may be able to get some probiotics tomorrow. I just gave him one poop, just to see whether he would maybe eat it. But he started squealing loudly. I thought it was excitement but he was so melancholic all day. He's still hapilly chatting away and peering outside, as if waiting. Why did he make that noise? Should I not give the poo soup?

I'm very worried about him. We are giving him some Metacam (cat) 1.25ml that was left over from his neuter, the vet said we can finish the tub. Is there anything I can do for him?

if he only squealed when you offered him that, then we couldnt know. Perhaps he heard something or was startled?

When you give poop soup, you soak very fresh poops in water and then syringe the water to them.

Weigh him daily while he is on antibiotics so you can be sure he is eating enough hay. Antibiotics can upset the tummy (hence the probiotics) but it can also stop them wanting to eat as much so you may need to prepare to step in with support feeding.

It was just odd, I heard that a healthy guinea pigs give their poop to ill guinea pigs so I thought I'd try giving it to him. I tried twice and both times he just squeeked. Thank you.

Yea it’s strange if it is his reaction.
The do try to eat each others poops, but soaking them in water and syringing just the water to the piggy

I think it was because he smelled that it was from sows.

You don't offer whole poos. In order to work, the poos need to be absolutely fresh, just out of the bum because the gut microbiome dies off very quickly. you immediately drop them into a small dish with water and shortly after syringe some of the water to your piggy. The whole operation should ideally take less than 5 minutes for the microbiome to make into the digestive tract to be still effective. You can only use the fresh poos of piggies that are not on medication.

Ideally you take the piggies out of a cage and give them a little treat to eat; that stimulates them to make poos. these are the ones you want to soak straight away.

All the best with the abscess. Has the abscess been lanced and drained or operated out? Where is it located? Have you been told to keep flushing a lanced abscess in order to allow it to heal from the inside out and be drained for as long as possible in order to get every spec of infection out? What antibiotic is your boy on?

Sorry, I just saw your reply. He hasn't had diarrhoea since and he's eating better today as well. The abscess has a very tiny hole and the vet said to wipe it with warm cotton pad 2-3 times daily. I have read a lot about the flushing and I started getting paranoid of what I should do. I called the vet and he said to just keep wiping and keep him as clean as I can. I'm just hoping for the best as I am so worried. I wake up at least once in the night to make sure he's doing well. Alfie is on Baytril, I know that isn't the strongest of the antibiotics. It formed due to his neuter over two weeks ago. I feel so sorry for him because he was healing from the neuter and now the abscess. He has an appointment for next week to go back and see whether the abscess is getting better. I'm trying my best to keep the hole open but it is tiny and a scab formed quickly so I keep wiping and trying to get rid of any excess so it can all come out.

You need to work the scab off (NOT pleasant at all) in order to allow the abscess to drain out.
