IMG_3103.webp IMG_3104.webp my gorgeous boar has an issue with his penis. I have posted previously that he was castrated in November as the vet thought his prolapse may be hormonal. That wasn't an issue for him and he recovered well. It didn't help the prolapse issue, and I have been gently cleaning him with warm water and popping on some ky jelly to keep it from drying out. It has never been a "normal" shape but I have noticed that now when I clean it it almost pulsates at the tip. He is eating, drinking, peeing and pooping normally. He has not lost weight. He lets me clean it and touch it no problem he doesn't appear to be in any pain. I took him to the vet after the surgery and they said that there wasn't much else they could do. The vet was recommended to me by another piggy owner.
Basically I wondered if there is anything else I could be doing? Should I seek a different vet although I can't find an exotic vet anywhere nearby? Does anyone have any experience of this sort of issue? I am worried about the wee man he is my favourite (although I don't tell his brother that!)
Apologies the images are a bit blurry I was worried I was hurting him so tried to be quick!

Yes he is functioning normally and shows no signs of stress or pain. The vet has seen it three times and more or less said there was nothing he could do stop annoying him! I may go to a different vet for a second opinion. Thanks

I think you are right to seek 2nd opinion. Operating on a tiny guinea pig must be extremely challenging for any vet. Some are a lot better than others. I had a routine operation over a year ago on myself (not by a vet but by a human consultant surgeon!) and I had side effects that I have just got to live with. This may be the case with your little guinea pig. I hope all goes well and he lives a long an happy life with you.

Hi, just wondering what the outcome was with your little fellow? I have today found something similar with my boar. I have a vet appt on Saturday and he seems fine in himself so I'm hoping its nothing too serious.

Chewie still has a penis exactly the same, it hasn't changed for the better or the worse. It doesn't cause him any pain and he lets me check and clean it regularly. Vet wasn't sure what it was but it isn't causing any distress so I have stopped stressing about him!
