Not sure what to title this…but I separated my two boars in September, one was bullying the other and causing him to have injuries to his behind. It was pretty gruesome, but after separating them (splitting the cage down the middle) both boys perked up a lot! They could see eachother and “visit” but have their space. Even the bullied boy changed his demeanor and was friendlier towards me.

But then I changed the bars separating their cage…same type of bars (c and c) just a different color. Now the bullied boy has been rubbing his nose on the bar and loosing hair, the bully boy has been non stop chewing on the bars. I covered part of the bars with a towel so that the one boy would stop chewing them because I don’t want him to break a tooth but he’s insistent. The bully boy even managed to boar glue the other through the bars 🙃 the bullied boy is getting old and not eating as much hay as he used, I really don’t want to put them back together and add more stress again.

Is it okay for them to continue these behaviors with each other through the bars? I feel like their bond has been breaking for awhile now and it’s just been hard to help them!

I’m sorry to hear this.

You definitely cannot put them back together if their hind has failed.
Are you able to put the old bars back?
Otherwise, the advice would be as you have done of putting a cover over or waiting until he gets bored or chewing them

I’m using the old bars to make a lid to keep our cat out 😅 but I can order more and give them back. I’m glad I’m on the right track waiting him out, he’s an ornery little guy

I hope the bar chewing has calmed a little. & your piggies teeth are ok.

We use cardboard over half the bars along the divide as a temporary solution. It does eventually get chewed away, but it does sometimes prevent Wally werepig, (my crazy bar chewing mad pig) from going to crazy.
Good luck.

It’s a little bit better! He’s only really doing it for like a couple minutes at a time which is actually an improvement! Cardboard is a good idea, don’t mind if he chews it as long as he doesn’t break a tooth. So far so good on the teeth front!
