We have booked a holiday for next September, it's a while away but I want to get the Piggies care sorted.

Colin has impaction and needs attention 2 or 3 times a day.

Has anyone boarded a piggie with impaction? do most boarders know how to deal with impaction? would I be better to ask if the Vet could board them for the 5 days?

I have noone in the family who could look after them. My Daughter is coming away with us and my Parents are both in their 80's so wouldn't want to put the care on them.

Many thanks for any advice.

Hi Kate! What a great piggy mum thinking of them already!
I'd be inclined to ask the Vet unless anyone else in your area can suggest a suitable per boarder!

I would also ask at the vet.
Whenever I have had pets with medical needs I always left them with either one of the vet nurses from our local surgery, or boarded them directly at the vet.
This does cost more, but unless you ca find someone who is confident and experienced dealing with impaction, this will probably be the best and safest bet for your boy.
And what an amazing owner you are planning so far in advance!

If you live near enough to your vets I bet one of the vet nurses would agree to do visits and tend to him. Otherwise boarding at the vets would probably be for the best.
Are you going anywhere special?

@*kate* You can also ask the boarders. Some may have experience with impaction, others may not. They may also be willing to take him to the vet daily to have it dealt with.

I've only every boarded my pigs once, when Anselmo was on med's and also a strict diet. I visited the boarder before I chose to use her and asked her questions. She was perfectly happy with me visiting in advance. In the end it was a win win situation for us both as I asked to board them in a rabbit run (and pay the extra for it). She said that my pigs loved it so much that she decided to offer them out to all future clients.

It's our Granddaughter's 1st Birthday on the day we go, we are going to Haven for 5 days :) we used to take our Children there and my Daughter wanted her Daughter's 1st holiday to be there too :)

There are 3 boarders not too far away. I will contact them all and also see what accomodation they provide.

It's the first time I have had to put any pets into boarding as my Daughter looked after my rabbit and cat when we last went away a couple of years ago but she is coming away with us!

I'm quite worried about leaving them in a strange environment :(
