Hi Everyone. Would really appreciate some advice.

My husband has recently been diagnosed with brain tumor (tumor in his pituitary gland). They are normally benign, but the surgery will have to be in Southampton (in about 6 weeks approximately) - we are in Salisbury. I will obviously be spending a lot of my time in the hospital and driving up and down.

I am thinking of trying to arrange some boarding for my piggies for this week while all this is going on, as I am worried that I will not be around much for them. What do people think - Am I being a bad mother trying to board them? I am thinking that I will have so much going on that I will not be able to give them the attention that they deserve. The normal lady I use, who is amazing, is moving house at the moment so wont be in a position to have them.

Grateful for anyone's advice.

Thank you from a worried Bee x

I think you are being excellent and with all that is going on, you're still thinking of the piggies.

Good luck and hope everything turns out well.

My cousin had a brain tumor removed about two years ago. I remember everyone was so stressed out they didn't have time for close to anything. If I were you I would board the piggies, that way they will get the attention they need and you won't feel guilty about not having as much time for them. Best of luck to you and your hubby! My cousins operation went perfectly and a month later she got married!

I am sure hubby's op will go well. As for the piggies ..is there anyone on here near you? I wish I were closer and I could help. Good luck x

Thank you for your kind offer. I will try to find someone who I trust nearer to me. If not I will maybe post something on here

Gosh I don't think you are being a bad mummy at all, you're thinking things through and I think being incredibly responsible.

Having been through operations with my youngest son when he was born, I know how all consuming hospitals can be at times like that and how tired you will most likely be with stress and worry (despite the benign nature of the tumour).

I imagine short term boarding with a reputable place would be a good idea, minimise stress on you and ensure you don't worry too much about that on top of everything else. I'm sure your piggies will forgive you!

Fingers crossed for you all x

Hi

No I don't think you are bad at all -infact very responsible knowing that you won't be around much. I doubt many pet owners think about things like that...

If you are struggling to find boarding, I would be happy to look after them. I'm not currently a registered boarding establishment but will be setting one up once I'm done with uni in a few weeks time (although I doubt it would be complete before you needed it officially - but I have space)

PM me if you want any more details :) I'm in Basingstoke, actually moving to Eastleigh late summertime but won't have moved by 6 weeks from now.

Oh thank you all for all your comments and advice. Thank you Catherine for your really kind offer. I may well take you up on that when I know more about when Nicks op is if that's ok.

I thought that I would be doing the best thing by boarding them and at least now I know that you guys feel the same.

Thanks again. Means alot xx

Hi

More than welcome to pm me and quiz my piggy knowledge etc, I know I would be if someone else was looking after my lot!

Your not being a bad mother. At least it will be one less thing to worry about coming home to feed the piggies or cleaning them out etc.

There is always Anna at Wheek & Squeaks based not far from Winchester/Southampton. (In Bishops Waltham).

I have used her a few times & she is fantastic.

You are not a bad piggy mother in the slightest.

I spent 4.5 months in hospital last year and 6 weeks in hospital this year and as there is only me and my hubby here, I packed my piggies off to my parents house in Nottingham for all that time. I felt really bad at the time but my mum was happy to have them, they were looked after almost as qwell as they are here and I didn't have to worry about hubby not paying them enough attention etc.

I hope your husbands surgery goes well and I wish you the best of luck. May be a forum member near you could help take care of your piggies for you? Just an idea xx

You are doing your best in very worrying circumstances! I hope that all goes well for your husband. It is very good that you are thinking things through and are planning ahead - it shows what a loving and responsible person you are!

Wheek and Squeak is a forum recommended rescue who also offer boarding; they are certainly an option for you.

Thanks guys for all your messages. It means a lot to know that you are all out there. I will sort things out when I know what is going on with Nick. I think we will probably know more in the next 2 weeks
