Hi, my two boars have been acting very strangely since we got pups this morning. The boars are in a separate cage from mum and pups, but ever since they arrived in the early hours the older of the boars is going after the younger one. Can this be triggered by the birth of the pups? Some hormonal change in the sow he’s picking up on?
They’re in a two tier c&c cage so can’t see each other but can hear and probably smell each other.
Our boars are dad and son (dad 10 months, son 3 months)
Grateful for any thoughts.

It could be the different smells.
There is also a hormone spike at around 9-10 months in boars and also your 3 month old is possibly getting a bit hormonal. Some boars also get a bit ‘spring fever’ which can cause some increased dominance. Or may be a combination of everything.

He seems to have calmed down during the day. Might have just worn himself out or the massive piles of hay I threw in did their job, or whatever smell/hormone it was has worn off/become less interesting. Not convinced he’s over his “mood” completely so it very likely is their ages. Who knows 🤣
