Hi all,
I got my 2 boars 2 months ago. They came as a pair so they were already introduced. The dominant one was Cas and the Sub was Ziggy. Cas was the boss. And after a wee while they settled down. Had a month and a half of bliss. Now Ziggy has become a wee bit aggressive. There has been teeth chattering and bum wiggling. Ziggy won’t leave Cas alone. Bum sniffing and humping. Cas can’t drink in peace. But they will eat together. Came down this morning and Cas had a scratch on his face. Wasn’t a bad cut but decided to give my vet a wee phone. She had advised me to have a wee separation for a day or 2 but give them some play time together everyday. Am I doing the right thing? How would I re-introduce them?
Appreciate all advice

Hi and welcome!

You have a lovely pair of boys!

Please take the time to read our guide links below.
The teenage guide gives you information on the teenage stages, what you can do and should avoid during that time, on temporary separations and re-introductions and your various options if you have to permanently separate. I can't repeat it all in detail; it has taken me a number of days to write each of the guides so they have the complete and precise information.
Hopefully they will go back together after a scratch, which tends to count more as an accident and not a full-on fight with deep bites to the neck or rump.
Here is the link: Boars: Teenage, Bullying, Fighting, Fall-outs And What Next?
Here is our boar guide: A Comprehensive Guide to Guinea Pig Boars

Thank you for getting back to me.
I will have a good read and the suggested threads.
They both seem happy apart. Eating and drinking fine. Running around and popcorning about. I put them together after a wee separation like the vet suggested but they started to fight again. I have read that a buddy bath might help. Has anyone had any success with this. All opinions and ideas are very much welcomed and a appreciated.

I just got my two female guinea pigs and they do the same thing, but there are no injuries. I have not done a buddy bath before. Skinnypigs1 has said that doing lots of things together works like clipping nails together to help them rely on each other, I could be wrong, but hope this helps! :P

Hi, The2musketeers 😀 They have a big cage and my partner made a huge run that takes up a big part of our living room (they are in the big run most of the day and they still fight) they also have a big outdoor hutch as well.
They have a wooden house each, 2 tunnels, a log hidey hole, a big log bridge, a medium log. They have toys galore. We have logs that we fill with hay and put treats in. We hide things in the cage/run for them to find. The vet says they are at an awkward age-they are 6 months old.

The vet is right they are kind of in the teenage years where they start getting a little wacky. I recommend reading the sites wiebke put up they are really helpful.
