When checking out my Charlie today I discovered a waxy like plug up his bottom. It is creamy coloured and about half an inch long. What is it and how can I stop him getting another? - He was not very pleased with me for trying to remove it!

Lol I think it's what every bour has, mine has this little thing too... it's hard, like a scab in my case... it's like a scent thing I think =] normal anyways.

This was actually a plug of stuff that came out of his privates not the greasy bit where his tail might have been if he'd had one.

mine has that too, i think it's impaction. same colour on my sonny too. strange. Sophie, it's up his bum, not around the willy! LOL

Could it have been bedding material & the natural creamy secretion mixed together? I frequently had to clean one of my boars bottoms of all sorts of debris, covered in the creamy stuff (i don't know the proper term for it) & yes it does smell! :))

It isn't impaction; this is a build up of the soft pellets that can't be expelled due to the anal sac muscles becoming slackened & is a completely different colour! :))

My boar had something like this (very similiar to what the problem with your boar had Niki by the sounds of it). The vet called it Smegma, however thats usually found in the genitals rather than the bum area (which confused me, as another vet told me it was probably more to do with his gut so put him on a probiotic which did nothing, I think for me this was another example of how vets know nothing about guinea pigs). It STUNK, was a creamy colour and had bits of his bedding cemented in it and was rock hard. I had to peel it out of him, much to his disapproval. Was like a lil casing or something he'd make himself..lol.

I found it stopped once I changed his bedding and eventually got him a friend. He was on Hemcore, then I put him on vetbed and it stopped...then got him a friend and he's now on newspaper and hay and its still fine.
