So Romano and Corey just fell out.

There was a bit of humping from Corey, chasing after Romano last night and today in the last hour it just got really bad.

I sat and watched them the whole time then took Romano out after I noticed them lunging. I couldn't see any blood on Romano but hes long haired and with black hair so its super hard to tell - I couldn't tell last time either. His bottom is covered in boar goo.

Corey has blood around his chin and a bit on his belly. I'm not sure if its his or Romanos.

I'm really not sure what to do now. They were perfectly fine before this. Sleeping together, playing together but the last two days Corey just went nuts trying to hump Romano.

This is the second time Romano has been attacked by his cage mates - Arthur and Corey both being the initiators and Romano defending himself.

Any advice would be nice. I've separated them. Corey is in my room and I'm just running a bath to wash the goo off of Romano and then clean his cage so it doesn't smell of Corey anymore.

Romano got super depressed last time he had a fall out with Arthur and I don't want to see it happen to him again so I really need to get him a new friend....

I don't know if its wise to go for a girl this time? I'm worried about the female affecting my bonded boars...

So Romanos got Coreys boar goo all over his backside. I tried washing it out which did nothing. I've cut out as much as I can, but he has quite a lot still left in which I just can't get out.

Any idea what I can do to get this out?

Oh dear :(
Am I mistaken reading you have a trio of boys ? This rarely works, piggies are better in pairs. As there is blood drawn, you need to find who has been injured and check the wound as bites can become infected quickly.
I would keep them separated but next to each other so the single boar doesn't feel alone.
Neutering could be an option then add a little wifepig but my advice would be find a rescue that boar dates piggies to find your single boy a new friend. Rescues will bond under supervision and chances are, the piggies will remain friends.
A sow could totally upset the ambience and make your other two boars fall out if she's anywhere near them so you could potentially end up with four single piggies :(
Definitely consider dating him and keep us posted :)
Johnson's baby wipes is recommended for boar glue - tease it out but if not, it may have to grow out :(

No I don't have a trio.

I have Gilbert and Ludwig, my first two boys in one cage and then I had Romano and Corey together in another cage.

Arthur is an ex boar I had before I got Corey. Corey was Arthurs replacement.

I already did boar bonding with Corey and Romano. Everything was fine until today and last night. Really don't know what happened. They were both older boars. Romano being 1.4 years old and Corey being 1.8 years old.

I think Guinea Pig Slave was saying that you should take your pig to somewhere that offers a Boar Dating service as Boar Dating is something that they will do on a nearly daily basis so have lots of experience with it.

Also if you go to a rescue, you get lifetime support from them should an issue arise such as the two boars falling out. A respectable rescue will also take back a pig if there is an issue (some rescues even ask for them to be returned to them if there is an issue as part of re homing criteria) instead of then having the worry of finding a new friend for the pig you are keeping and then rehoming of the pig you do not wish to keep.

I know when you had your first fall out you did actively look at rescues which was great, but personally I would have taken my time to look for a great rescue even if it took a few months. During which I would make sure my guinea pig is getting plenty of human attention.

I know that your brother (I think) got you Corey from gumtree without you knowing so it was out of your control really. But this time I definitely suggest that you try a rescue for boar dating.

If you wish to keep Corey, why don't you leave it a little while and then try and rebond them? Sometimes it does work and they can be best of friends. But obviously sometimes it doesnt work.

x

There must be something in the air! Lol.
Had this with my 2 boys last night. Exactly the same. Seperated them overnight and after putting them back together this morning they were fine. Think they knew they were naughty. Lol.
On the other hand mine never drew blood, that's not so good.
I'd try putting them back together, floor time, and watch them closely!

Yeah I'm already looking into rescues. I'm just really not sure what to do. I worry if I get a youngster it will grow up and again history will repeat and Corey, was apparently 1.5 years yet this happened. So, now I'm wondering if it will happen no matter the age of the other piggy. Romano just seems to be picked on for some reason.

I don't think I will try them back together. They were lunging and chattering really loudly. Romano is covered in boar goo. Extra thick and hard to get out. I think it will probably happen again. It's a shame as I love Corey. He's lovely.

I do know a lady who runs a rescue so I'm going to phone her up and see if she has any I can try Romano with.

Yeah seems like it xD;; Don't know why it suddenly happened. They were the best of friends before then. I even had to buy a rabbit pigloo as they would try to squeeze in the same one to cuddle up. My other bonded boars are happily together but have never shared a pigloo so I thought this was a great sign.

Yeah I might try floor time but I really am not sure it will work.

I am so sorry to hear this. Poor Romano. Hopefully boar dating him would get him a friend who won't pick on him. It seems strange to me that 2 older boars who have been getting along for quite some time had this falling out.

As for the boar glue, I've had this with one of mine. If it weren't for the blood being drawn I wouldn't worry about boar glue as a sign of falling out. The only way I got it all off was to use Cetaphil cleanser to soften and while still covered in the cleanser used a baby brush, a baby comb and my fingernails to gently pull the glue off.

I'm sorry to read this too having read your earlier posts about them, what a shame...

Even boys from a rescue can fall out - there are just never any guarantees with any animals.

I've never experienced boar glue - sounds horrific! :{

Thanks hun. It was very surprising as they seemed so close. Despite them rumbling at one another through the cage separation Romano seems to sleep next to the bars to be close to Corey anyway, though Corey isn't bothered and sleeps in his pigloo.

I've got most of the glue off of him minus a small patch. I'm going to try and hope the hair grows a bit more from his skin and then cut it away. If not, I have a vet who said she'd cut it away from me, sadly the appointment was for Saturday, the only day I am out so I'll be taking him the next time an appointment opens if its not gone by then.

Thank you. It is a real shame. I love them both so dearly. Corey has wiggled his way into my heart. If I was rich I'd just get them both a friend each and keep them both but sadly, this isn't possible with my funds. :(

It is very gross. I was surprised just how much of it there was!

Maybe just keeping them separated in the same cage would work out. I've heard of many boys who live happily this way as they are still near enough to a piggy to not feel lonely. Often these sorts seem to get along just fine together at floor time or out in a run, just don't like sharing the cage.

What I'm planning to do is get a teddy guinea pig to try with Romano. A baby boar. I've heard Teddys have a nature similar to coronets so I'm hoping that works. If not then I'm going to do as you mentioned.

As both of his past cage mates were Aby's, I was adviced that Aby's are not the best with coronets because of their spunkier personalities so that may be why neither worked out.

This is the two right now. Romano has been sleeping by the bars to be close to Corey. Corey doesn't seem bothered either way.

They both rumble at one another though.

Hello!

I have a Rex piggy (like a teddy but has curled whiskers) he is my dad's piggy and was here when I moved home! He is so lovely! He is the biggest out of him and his friend but he is the calmer of the two. His friend is the bossy boots! I'm currently treating both for ringworm and Teddy (Rex) is loving his medication and takes the syringe so easy! His brother TeaBag is a little nightmare!

I also have two single piggies that are currently living next door to each other. They are both happy. I know they are :)

I would just advise you to be extra careful. As this is the third friend for Romano is not a very long time. Maybe have a chat with someone who is very experienced in this area before you start bonding? Rescues also have Rex piggies all the time, I always see them. I do recommend going to a rescue. I'm not sure if you are looking into rescues but all the same I would get some advice from a very experienced person.

:)

Edit - I also have Aby piggies - My 2 black and Tans Peppa and Buddy are the calmest piggys LOL But I did go through some issues with boar glue when they were going through their hormonal stage. I used nail scissors to cut it out so i could get close to the skin without the threat of hurting them.

Hello Aby,

I am looking into rescues. I've emailed a few and am awaiting replies. I've asked them about baby teddies or if they have any calm males in their rescues. Just waiting for replies.

Are Rex's similar to teddies then?

I think they are similar - I've read in a Peter Guerny book that you tend to get Teddies in america and Rexs in the UK but obviously the books are abit old now! LOL

The only difference is their whiskers i think.. But i may be wrong!

I have a Rex & an Abby - they def have hectic personalities. I am so far working out ok but you never know... Such a shame ;(
