I'll give a brief overview to start - Eren is my "original" pig, he was a rescue because he was a 'bully' to other pigs. After a while, Gilbert joined, and they got along fairly well - some scuffles, chittering and rumblestrutting, but no major cuts or wounds from each other. While getting Boar Supplies, I came across 2 babies (Pumpkin + Muffin) who were too old compared to the very young babies at the store (ik its a store n its bad, but i couldnt leave them) and had been in alone (together) for a long while. Introductions were quite rocky - nipping, rumble strutting, mounting, chattering loud, etc. Gilbert has tried to become the dominant pig, but Pumpkin is also trying - Gilbert has caught himself and been caught a couple times, leading to some blood being drawn. (its been hot so hes got infections which ive gone to vet for, and he is recieving treatment). The babies are in one cage, Eren is in another cage, and I'm keeping Gilbert in a carrier (large) next to the bed for me to monitor at night. In the day theyre all out to stretch their legs.
Gilbert is seperated from all other piggies all the time bar about an hour or two, when I let him be on the same area (a floor or bed, etc) and they all rumble at each other and chitter. Gilbert can be quite aggressive - hence his cuts, which some have already healed.
My question is, do you think it will be possible for me to reintroduce Gilbert in? Should I seperate Eren from the babies? They were all on a humping spree tonight - is it just the babies n Gilbert hitting Boar puberty? Or is it a lost cause?
I adore my boys, and I've spent countless nights staying awake with them and caring for them and doing everything I can. I also know that several people have said about quads being impossible. But they get along until Pumpkin tries to be dominant. At the moment Gil is grumpy (from illness) so he's not near the others much, but Eren gets on fairly ok with the babies.
By the way, they have a large cage (entire bedroom, and its about 5ft x 12 ft (which is split for 2 cages). I've had the babies for just over a week or so. Am I rushing it? Am i just a bad pig dad? I dont know, I'm trying, and i keep being told by the vet to neuter them to "calm them down" but advice from threads on here and other forums all say it wont do anything..
Please, offer any advice?
