Boars & Sows

The boars will fight over the girls. You could try bonding 1 boar with one sow giving you 2 pairs but if you have 2 same sex pairs that are happy together I personally would leave them that way.

Yes I thought that would cause fighting, never mind, I'll leave them be. I'll try to arrange the cage differently, the girls are alright, but the boys are separate, they hate each other, constantly rumbling at each other, bum swaying, it's quite funny really. Trouble is they are in separate cages & I really feel sorry for them, not having a mate.

Would I be able to bond 2 sows with 2 boars or are the boars going to fight over the girls

BIG NO NO!

You can either keep boars and sows separately well out of sight and reach of pheromones, or you can have the boars neutered to live with one of the sows each in two separate pairs. The latter is only recommended as a possible option of your boars have fallen out.

That's a difficult one for you. Have your boars been neutered? If so you could try bonding one with the girls and having a mini herd but that would leave the problem of the other boar. Boar dating with another boar or if neutered with another sow or leaving them as they are. Whatever you decide I would your time and don't rush into anything, I know you are a caring owner and do what's best for your piggys at all times but sometimes we have to put ourselves first, piggy owning can be so stressful at times when they don't get on like we hope they will.

Thanks Wiebke
Just thought could the boars have fallen out because they are in a C&C above the girls.?

Sows in a strong season with lots of pheromones can make existing tensions worse and bring about a face-off if things are already on the dodgy side, but they have - if at all - only provided the tipping point for an already existing problem.
It has taken several sows in season at the same time to produce a big enough cloud of pheromones to fill the room in order to set off my teenage boar living above them. He would not react to a normal single season. Pheromones do not usually rise. The drift horizontally for a bit and then fall.

If you have the space, you can also consider bonding one of your neutered boars with your sow pair after a 6 weeks post-op wait (let the girls choose who they like better), and find your other boy a sow or sow couple, ideally via rescue dating for a happy bond.

Ive got one neutered boar, the other one is neutered as well but he still has another couple of weeks before he's safe.
I'm bit worried if I put the boars in another room as they are used to our comings & goings & we always chat to them when we pass. If we need to I suppose we could always, keep popping in to them.

Haven't u got 3 boars Gizmo, Chester and Logan? If it were me, I would decide which boys you are serious about bonding and have best chance, move them out of the piggie room entirely. Have them side by side for a good while and then start from scratch. The remaining boar could then make your mini herd with the girls (neutered of course).
At the moment, everyone is riled up and excited and the boys don't really stand a chance of bonding calmly. I have 4 boar pairs and I don't ever risk them even near girls. Establishing the bond between the two boys you want to bond is more important than seeing you all the time, that can come later. Do u think u can find them an alternative room for calm bonding?
