We are all thinking of your little guy, sending gentle hugs and healing vibes to Bob from me and my gang x

Thinking of you and your piggy and hoping he gets well soon.

Thanks for all your kind words and thoughts, it's lovely and very comforting at a hard time.

Just rang for this morning's update - Jim (head vet) came onto the phone which scared me (have been put through to general nurses before). He said he had fully expected to come in this morning to find Bob had passed on, but that in fact he was looking brighter! Head up looking out etc - last night he was laying down with a heavy head.
He said that the green 'evidence' by his mouth suggests he has eaten some parsley overnight, they are continuing to cut up his hay small and offer him small amounts of recovery food. Still reluctant to syringe feed because he is mouth breathing & the risk of pneumonia is too high. They are also starting sub cut fluids again today.
He still has discharge from his nose, we certainly aren't out of the woods yet, and obviously they can't say for sure, but he *might* have turned a corner.... :))

He said "as long as he wants to fight, we'll fight with him" - I could have cried!

Come on Bobby!

We just checked in to see how he was and are delighted to read this, we are still keeping all our fingers and toes crossed and will check in again tomorrow. Come on Bob.

Sending you and Bob vibes and hoping that he can pull through!

We are definitely all fighting for him...come on BOB! Wonderful news. What a lovely vet too. Keep us posted. Sending lots of love, hugs and healing vibes at such a difficult time. xx

Just read this....I'm so pleased that he might have turned the corner, keep fighting little man as your mummy needs you. Fingers crossed and lots of hugs to you

Sarah xx

Morning all, I've just spoken to someone at the vets and I'm sorry to say Bob isn't as good as he was yesterday morning :...
The vet is out at the moment but calling me later this morning. It's so hard but I think it might be time to let Bob go and I think that is probably what the vet wants to talk about. OH and I discussed it last night, and we have to weigh up the chances of a full recovery without long term ill health/suffering which is probably unlikely after such a severe infection, against the suffering he is going through at the moment. He must be miserable. We don't want to be selfish.
I'm so sad :( he has only been with us for 5 weeks (6 weeks on Sunday). I feel so awful that I didn't spot a problem sooner :(
I will let you know when I have spoken to the vet, but I'm not anticipating good news.
Thank you for all your lovely messages of support, it makes such a difference xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

So sorry to hear that Bob isn't doing so well this morning. We have been thinking of you all, still keeping everything crossed that there is some improvement. Such a difficult time for you and a decision that every pet owner dreads. Sending hugs xx

Oh no :(
Was hoping Bob was holding his own :(
Fingers crossed still your vet may have another option of treatment and needs your consent ?/
I discovered yesterday that few vets are now injecting piggies with an Amoxycillin antibiotic (usually not recommended to them) as the very last resort to treat infections - only as I say, as a last resort.
Maybe contact Pebble on here via PM, she will give you more advice on this matter.
We want Bob home x>>

My fingers are of course crossed that Jim has a miracle treatment plan up his sleeve to help little Bobby get all better - but I also have to be realistic and honest with myself that he is a very poorly boy who got poorly quickly and since being hospitalised on Tuesday night hasn't improved sadly.
There could still be other treatment options (like changing antibiotic to Zithromax as mentioned earlier in the thread), and I'm planning to ask Jim what his professional opinion is on Bob's chances of a good recovery & a happy life. But I can't help wondering how long we keep filling the little guy full of drugs and trying to tempt him with food he isn't interested in, before it just becomes cruel... :(

sorry Cath, just caught up with your thread.
so sorry Bob isn't looking good again. rest assured they will do everything they can for him, its a tough decision to make.
Come on Bob, we are all rooting for you !
Fingers crossed Jim comes up with a master plan xx

Well you won't believe this but I spoke to the vet this evening and his nose has cleared up today! No discharge :) So we're not giving up on him yet :) he's not yet eating by himself, or at all (he's having sub cut fluids still) so still a very long way to go but can't help feeling we're over the first hurdle!
Goodness, I really thought we were going to have to say goodbye to him today, such a turnaround of events. Emotional day!
So it seems he really is a little fighter & is going to toy with our emotions for a while yet lol. Hoping to visit him tomorrow, could be a shock as the vet described him as 'thin' which I can't image as he was rotund to say the least...

we keep dipping into this thread as we really really want to read the words Bob is home with us and eating a fresh parsley salad. Starting to get cramp in our fingers and toes from keeping them crossed! Come on Bob we wish you all the best and he deserves it the fight he is going through.

Hi all,

I'm really sorry to say that Bob lost his fight this morning. Despite looking brighter yesterday evening, sadly it wasn't meant to be and he went downhill overnight and passed away mid morning. We weren't with him but I'm glad to say that the veterinary staff were.
We have been to pick him up and will be taking him to the pet crematorium near us to be with Rocky who passed away in October.

Unfortunately we've also had some very bad news in the family today, my uncle has been in hospital for four weeks after having a bad turn and losing a lot of blood. He was diagnosed with a cancerous tumour four years ago but it has never affected his health & he had regular check ups. Sadly it turns out the blood loss is related to the cancer and there is nothing they can do :( in the last 24hrs he has rapidly gone downhill. My Dad and Auntie are with him now, my Mum has been to say goodbye. He is my Dad's best friend, he is only 43 and was full of life a month ago. He will leave behind two daughters who are 15 and 12. My Nannie is also having to come to terms with the thought of losing her youngest child, having only lost my Grandad last October. Life is so cruel.

Not in a good place tonight, but thank you all for your help, advice and support over the last week. It has truly meant a lot to us, and has made a very difficult week a little easier. RIP Bob.

Oh I am so sorry you lost Bob, you did absolutely everything you possibly could for him, he must be at peace now x

Big ((hugs)) for you having to go through so much sadness at the moment x
