Hi

My 5 month old guinea pig is on a waiting list to be bonded but the list is so long it won’t happen until the new year

My question - is he too young to try bonding with a baby boar? One boar local to me has become available to me he is 6weeks.

My boy is happy being divided (his bonded brothers are on the side of his run and cage) so do I wait it out or try?

Hi

Boars can be bonded at any age but the weeks around 6 months are the most difficult because they signal the hormonal height of the teenage months with some very intense testosterone spikes. Once they are past teenage, things will calm down noticeable and in older age (once the testosterone fizzles out), boars positively mellow.
You may have to brace for a humping orgy (which can become too much) and a lot more dominance.

Crucial for any boar bond is not the age but whether they are personality compatible. All you can do is give it a try but keep the option to hand back the little boy in case things don't work out.

Please follow the advice and information in our step-by-step bonding guide and boar guide, which you will find very helpful as the bonding guide talks you in detail through the whole bonding process and also includes chapters on the specifics of boar and baby bonding. The boar guide will give you information about the various ages and what to look out for in terms of that:
