Hi everyone,

I sadly lost one of my bonded pair of Guinea pigs this afternoon, they were sisters and have been together all of their lives (5 and a half years). Pebbles, who is my remaining Guinea pig is now alone. She seems happy and not phased about the situation but I can't help but feel sorry for her!

I also have another girl who is around 6 years old. She has been on her own since I got her around 5 years ago as she was a rescue case and despite many attempts to bond her with my others it hasn't worked. She has since mellowed a lot though and plays with my other girl in the garden and they seem to get along a lot better.

My question is, would it be worth trying to bond them both together or would this be stressful as one girl has just lost her partner and the other has been alone for so long and is used to it? They are both older pigs and I don't want to put them under any stress. Advice is welcome!

Hi @LeahsPiggies -if you don't try, you'll never know. An introduction on neutral ground (like on grass in their run) may work. You will very quickly see whether it will work or not.
When Connie was recently PTS I tried Violet (well over 4 ) with Mollie and Mabel. Sadly it ended in a big fight but no-one got hurt as we stepped in just at the right time. I don't regret trying as it would have reduced my cages to 1 large cage and would have made perfect sense. However the silly piggies had other ideas.
If you try them and it works you will have a great solution. If it fails, you will have lost nothing through trying.

Thank you both! I think I'll go for that option, I'm just worried about stressing them out, especially since one has been alone for so long. Of course I also considered getting a younger one for her but it just ends up being a vicious cycle of them passing away and having to get more. I wouldn't want to replace her!
I think I will most likely give bonding them both a go and if it doesn't work then at least I tried. Pebbles seems fine on her own for now but it's not nice seeing her without a friend!

Hi all, just a little update! I am very happy to announce that the girls have been together for almost 24 hours and touch wood, there have been no issues yet other than the occasional spat. I hope this will be the end of them both being alone!

I seem to remember you being on facebook in the pet community at some point?.. is this little black pig porche?(not sure on spelling?)

Hi everyone, just thought I'd give you another little update on the girls. It's been over a month now since they've been together and they're still getting along great, they've even gained over 100g each which I'm so pleased with as I was worrying about their weight loss. I still miss Pringles like crazy and I wish she was still here but I definitely did the right thing putting these two together and I'm so glad they're happy again :luv:
