I have 2 recently bereaved male guineas who are nearly 3 years old. Unfortunately they were both the dominant boar of their pair. They have been living in a divided playhouse for a week. Today I had them both out in the downstairs toilet a completely neutral area and they were looking reasonably OK munching on veggies with sporadic normal bonding behaviour. All of a sudden there was a whirling furrball, I put my hand in to separate (stupidly), and am currently waiting for stitches. Am I right in thinking with that level of violence towards each other that they will never get on?

If they have drawn blood with each other you have to separate them. In the forums there is a piece on bonding, worth reading. Hope you don't have 2 many stitches.

They didn't draw blood on each other because my hand got in the way, 4 stitches and 3 steri strips! Good job they didn't connect

@Touie you are correct in that you can not put these boars together at all.I'm sorry you have sustained an injury, ive been there, boar was clinging onto my index finger with all insciors attatched alot of blood.tetanus injection is wise as well.you can put them in two seperate cages or grids down the middle of a c and c cage, strictly no physical contact.until you have time to decide your options.

Please do not try introduce again; there will be only more fights. By far not all boars (or sows!) are character compatible, especially when you get two dominant pigsonalities. Keep them as next door neighbours with interaction through the bars, so they have their own territory but can still provide the necessary stimulation for each other.

If you want to look for other options, please contact Wheek&Squeak Guinea Pig Rescue. It is your closest good standard rescue at the moment. Rescue contacts are provided in our fall-out link.
