Bonding Boars.

Hi could anyone offer me advise on bonding my new 10 week old pig timmy with my 3-4 month old piggi mikey. I have read all the info given and already done it wrong by introducing them straight away. So now ive seperated them for now. Their both about the same size when i put them together there was a lot of rumblestrutting, chattering, lifting the head high, mounting, nose to nose, chasing and one nip no damage was done. I know all this is normal. Timmy seemed to be the more dominant he had his chin higher, mounting and was making more noise. But he was also cleaning himself and eating he dint really move from where he was sat much. Mikey seemed to be the one who backed down and moved away. I did try putting mikey with my older male but ginger constantly mounted him until mikey became distressed so i chose to seperate them. I was just wondering what people thought the chances of bonding these two instead were.

It sounds good - you just need to let them sort it out without intervention unless they really start to fight or the mounting is relentless. Please be aware that boars have to start right back from the start when you separate. Give yourself a day and if necessary overnight until they have settled together before you move them into their cage.

Thank you. I'll reintroduced in a couple of days they can still see and weep at each other where they are. Hopefully mikey can finally have a friend.

if you can push their cages next to each other, they can make friends through the bars in the run up.

Unfortunately there cages are fixed into a shed but i chose the two cages where they meet in the corner in an L shape to keep them as close as i can the cage i want to put them is 5-6ft i hope that will be big enough i can seperate that for them if that would be better.

Just an update on my 2 biars that i wanted to bond. I've followed your advise and timmy n mikey have been living happily together for 10 wks with no problems.

Have you considered dating Ginger at one of our recommended rescues? That way you come home only with mate if there has been success and you have the support of the rescue during the settling in period and the whole life of their adopted piggies. It is by far the safest way of bonding difficult boars.
