Hi there, I'm new to the forum and looking for some advice. I have 2 male guinea pigs and they are approximately 6 months old (rescued so not 100% sure) they were fully bonded when we got them and get on great. One of them loves human contact but the other still runs and hides at the slightest touch (he is getting slightly better but very tiny steps at a time). I know someone that her pigs have just had babies and I was wondering what the chances are of being able to bond a third male with my two?

Is it a good idea to bond another male with already bonded males? Should I wait longer until my jumpy piggie is a bit happier with us? Do you think it could help him having another friend?

Any advice would be useful, I love having them in the house and they love exploring and I can't wait to get them outside on the grass this summer... I just don't want to risk them fighting as I don't have room to have 2 cages if they don't bond.

Thank you in advance :)

If you don't have space for 2 cages then I wouldn't risk it @Sammyjay9692. Boar trios are notorious for fighting and not working so you'd run a high risk of fighting and evem your bonded pair fighting.

Okay thankyou, I love my boys and the last thing I want to risk is upsetting them! They are generally very happy and I'd love more because I just love watching be piggies but if it's going to risk their happiness I'll keep them how they are.

Thanks ☺️

It’s easy when we love our piggies to want to rescue more and add to their numbers. But really if your boars are under 18 months then they are unlikely to accept another boar. That’s what our expeierence in the rescue has taught us over many years. I really wouldn’t entertain adding another boar.
