Hi

I would like some advice on bonding male guinea pigs and when is best to do it. Mine is currently 3 months old. when is the best age to introduce them to another male. And what age of guinea pig should i be looking for. I was looking to getting another male around july. when 6 months old. He is a shy and relaxed guinea pig.

would a 120cm cage be ok for 2 boars. I am looking to get a c&c cage, I am hoping in june but not sure yet and might be later on in the year

A 120cm cage is the minimum for 2 piggies but for boars you would ideally have something bigger. A c&c cage would definitely be great for them! Good luck :)

Yes i am defo getting a C&C cage at some point just dont know when get. Just having trouble finding the best ages for bonding

I have recently bonded a 7 month old with a 3 month old in a 120 cage without any problems at all. I have also in the past bonded boys of similar ages and also a pair of oldies who were both 5. Make sure you put 2 of everything in the cage, 2 hideys, 2 food bowls etc then there is no reason for them to squabble over anything. Also make sure the hideys have 2 exits so they can escape if necessary

It all really depends on the age of the other guinea pig too & both their personalities. Hormones kick in at some point after about 5 months so a pair settled before that age can start to have problems once hormones are an issue.

I would look for an older boar (over a year maybe) from rescue to bond with your youngster. Have a look in the rescue section & see if there is a Piggy Bank rescue near you, they would do boar-dating & let your guinea choose a friend they get on with. There are always plenty of lovely single boars looking for a good forever home & a new friend.

You can always call up a rescue near you & have a chat about it. It might be helpful to you.

Best wishes to you & your piggie, shiny :)

I would love to go down the rescue route and boar dating but my local rescue is no where near me and have no way of getting there. i was either going to bond him around 6 months with a older pig. or wait untill mine is at least a year old and bond with a younger one

I cant recommend boar dating enough i have successfully got two of mine paired off. As he is 3 months old i would look for an older boar, personally i wouldn't wait as he is young enough still to learn from an older boar. Piggies like company and it would be better to find him a friend sooner rather then later in my opinion. As hes a baby still an older boar will keep him in check and he will grow up with him. A 120 is big enough for a pair if you allow them out of cage time daily obviously if you have the space a cc is the ultimate cage but 120's can work if you allow them free time :)
