OH and I have been discussing getting some more piggies, as we are both 100% in love with the boys.

What we would like to know, is would it be possible for us to put more males in their herd? they have a fairly large hutch (6ft, with a 7ft run permanently open to them) and they have lots of toys and hidey places, and the three get on really well as they are at the moment..dont want to ruin their happiness, but at the same time would like to be able to offer a home to some unwanted pigs

Has anyone got any advice?

I'm not sure, i probably wouldnt risk upsetting the set up. if you think it could work though then maybe you could give it ago :)

Do you have three boars already? Or are they Sows? If sows then you could introduce a neutered boar, I don't think 2 would work out they would fight for dominance.

If you have 3 boars I wouldn't rock the boat, but perhaps you could get 2 boars and house them seperatly. :)

if the 3 are happy together, personally i wouldnt add more as it could upset the balence, and i would have thught having more than 3 boys could push it a bit.

so if it were me i would house the new boars seperate

yes, I have three adorable little boys. I have seen an advert for a trio needing a home (boys), but I'm worried about then ruining their happiness

i defo wouldnt add 3 boars to 3 boars :)

you mean if you had sows near the boars?

depends on the boars really.

some boars fall out if there are sows next to them but some people have them close successfully i think ?

I'm not sure as i only have boars. but once bob got a whiff of the 2 satin girls i was fostering temporarily, and went a bit crazy ::)

I'm not sure :-\ it could start them fighting if they smell them but some boars can live happily near sows :-\

if you wanted more piggies could you not get more boars? and just keep the seperate? :)

I would say so, you may end up with three boars all living seperatly or it may work out. If you have the space to house the seperatly then, well it's up to you but I know I wouldn't. :)

they should be ok with males seperate from them. i have that set up in my room. bob and munchie in a c+c and merlin next to them in a nero 3

I think I will probably go with more boars..although we easily have the space for more hutches, id hate to see them fight, as they really do get one so well together

O0 i love boars :smitten: id prob get more boars and keep them seperate :) i think that would be the option least likely to upset them :)

To be honest it could all go pear shaped (not meaning to sound horrible) my 2 boars are 8 months now and seperated for about 2 weeks. I think between 6 and 9 months is a very delicate age. Are they close?

However tempting it may be I would just wait another six months - as S&T says, it's a tricky age and the next few months will be pretty crucial with regard to their relationships with one another.

My advice would be to leave things just as they are at the moment O0

They are very close to each other, Gary and Mavin always follow Horace, and they do groom each other.

thanks guys ;)

I agree - let them grow up a bit, speaking from own experience with 2 young boars who got on really well for first 5 / 6 months, then I tried to add a third and they all fell out really badly - I ended up having to house them each separately because even the two that had been living together beforehand wouldn't be in the same area as each other after the fight. When they fight, properly, it's really unpleasant. Boys eh!
