Hi, apologies if this is a silly question or has an obvious answer, but I can't seem to find any info on this in particular and would really appreciate some advice!

I have an 8 month old boar who is 6 weeks past his neutering. I am desperate to get him a girlfriend, and I've been in contact with my two local guinea pig rescues (there are not many around this area?), and they don't have any available at the moment.....except for a PAIR of two girls.

My question is: Is it okay to bond one male with two females?

I can find a lot of information about bonding and pairing two males, two females and one male and one female, and how not to bond two males with one female, but can't find much on one male with two already paired females.

I am just worried as he is quite a shy little pig, very nervous, and he had to be taken away from his previous male piggy friend, as he kept being attacked :( ! And I would hate for the girls to gang up on him or something, does this happen if they are already a happy pair? Or do male to female bonding's always tend to be happy? Or would it be different with an already happy pair of girls? I am just very cautious as mentioned the last bond did not go well at all! I don't want to put him through all of that again so if it's better to just get one girl I will wait until one is available......of course if comments seem to think it would be okay I would love two new girls :luv:

Any help you could give me I would really appreciate! Thank you! :)

Two females and one male is perfectly fine. He will surely be happy to have two beautiful ladies .
Normally femaleand male bondings are very easy no matter how many girls.
Most girl love to have a husboar, so don’t worry to much.

I'm liking this comment as I'm getting my boy neutered soon and hes getting a wife who i already have. Just need to bond them after the 6 week wait. She will have a toy boy

Yes, that pairing is fine, provided your girls are getting on well. The bonding success depends on whether the boar is accepted by the sows and they can work out a functioning hierarchy. Like with all group bondings, the basic dynamics are essentially the same and bonding behaviours are essentially the same.

Neutered boars that have never met sows before, can go a bit overboard and lose control over their gonads for a day or two and cross gender bondings can be on the lively, vocal and very stinky side!

Ideally you date your girls at a good rescue so know that acceptance has happened and that they are working out. Younger sows are generally much more accepting of boars than older sow pairs that are past ideal child bearing age.

Thank you so much everyone for all of your advice it's really helpful! I've asked the rescue to let me know some further details eg age size and background and if they do the bonding. I will let you know how it goes 😁! Huge thanks also to Guinea pig forum there are some great resources suggested x x

Sorry to jump on this, I know it’s an older thread but I just wondered how your bonding went? We’re the two piggies living side by side before the male was neutered? I’m considering all this at the moment!

👍. Yep they were living side by side, and i kept swapping hidey houses over every few days, and taking piles of hay out of one cage and swapping it over. When it came to the bonding, it was very easy, they are not the closest couple, but they are always there for eachother

Thanks for your reply, so how long would you say they were side by side before they lived together? I’m just wondering if I’d be daft to get a female now before Forrest is even neutered!

I think they were side by side for about a month or two. Basicly i used to have them seperate with no intention to put them together, then i joined here and realised ita bad to keep pigs alone. I would get him neutered then look for a sow in that 6 weeks, then see if you can arrange a bonding date between your boar after the 6 weeks and the sow you find.

Yes that would be the sensible way to do it (but it’s hard not to start looking 😍) Thank you 😊

Depending on where you are getting the new piggy, you may need a quarantine period, so I wouldn't swap items from cages until you're sure your new piggy isn't carrying any illness or infection.

Thank you 😊 Well.... I had already fallen in love with a girl on pets 4 homes website, I wasn’t going to get her as the lady wanted to sell her with cage and accessories etc that I didn’t really need, but I couldn’t stop thinking about her and since single females seem to be hard to come by in rescues I gave in and went to collect her yesterday 🙈 I’ll start a new thread to introduce her, and she isn’t named yet! She’s in her own cage for now in the same room but not next to Forrest. When I know she’s healthy I’ll move the cage nearer. Just need to book Forrest in for his op now 😭

Congratulations on the new sow!😃. Make sure you find a vet that has done alot of successful neuters, to minimize risks during the op and for recovery.
