So we need to find a new friend for Pippin since Gladys sadly passed over to the Rainbow Bridge last weekend ... I have contacted Cavy Corner and I just wanted to ask on here as I don't want to keep bothering CC with 'daft questions '.

If she takes to a new friend and comes home - do I need to get rid of my wooden bridges which would have Gladys scent on them?

The fleece won't have any scents as it will be freshly washed and I plan to give the cage a deep clean once Pippin has gone for the bonding.

Thanks an advance x

I’ve never got rid of things when a piggy has passed away. I’ve just always given the cage a deep clean but wait and see what others advise too :) I still have the same wooden logs from several years ago

I have also not binned anything after a piggy passes though I do keep a small group so that might be different. If you are concerned and have any F10 you could make up a sink of solution and soak the wooden objects for an hour or so and leave to dry for at least 24 hours. I have done this before when piggies have been ill to kill off any germs

I always take all wooden items outside, spray with disinfectant, and then hose off.
I leave them for a few days outside (or in the garage if the weather is awful) to fully air dry.
I figure this probably gets rid of the scent and also ensures they are clean.

I agree with above posters...

The added bonus is Cavy Corner offer a residential bonding service, which helps enormously.

I was very concerned when Reuben lost Darling.... as he has fallen out with a sow in the past. He's very pleased with his 2 new wife pigs from Cavy Corner.

I do the same and spray with F10 and leave outside or in a shed. I don't use anything not fully washable straight away but wait until the bond is fully established so any scent left would not upset the bond anyway. The only time I've got rid of wooden things is when the piggies had parasites and it was safer in case of live eggs being left in any cracks.

I trust Cavy Corner to find her a new friend . I just was unsure about bringing a new piggy home and her smelling Gladys if you know what I mean... I will wash the wooden bridges also....

When I have a newly bonded pair or group I don’t use anything wooden in the cage. I use plastic stools which are easy to clean with F10 and freshly washed fuzzbutts hoojcubes which have 2 exits. I only put the wooden bridges etc in once they are settled after a week or so. And in that week I soak all wooden things in F10 to remove all scent.
