Ok so I’m gonna be building my piggies huge cage soon but right now they are split up in a 12 sq foot dog playpen since I can’t get the male neutered yet but once I get the c&c set up I will be moving the female to the c&c should I keep the male in the dog kennel that I can sit in with him cause he’s super skittish or move him into the c&c right away I’d split it obviously

Please keep a intact boar away from a female, boars have been known to jump c&c grids to get to females. When are you getting him neutered?

If I moved him to the c&c they’d be in separate parts and both sides would have a lid and I plan to get him neutered as soon as his balls drop in a few months and she’s on pregnancy watchfor the next 9 weeks cause I got them Saturday and he was miss sexed and yes I’ve got vet appointments set up for them on Tuesday

the nice thing about C & C cage is that u can do lots of things with it. I separated my male from my females with it and use carton wrapper to wrap each grid and then wrap it some more with transparent tape, in the end it will have a smooth look and be very tough for pigs to bite through and can't even climb on it. My male piggy was a biter so at the sixth month of changing liners and some space started appearing he managed to get a biting space but still couldn't bite through so that's one idea, another one is to use table covers, harder to manage but sturdy, there's also waterproof bedsheets and whatever u can use at home that u can find and wrap around the C&C cage to separate the boy from the girls but I recommend a transparent one to let the piggies interact even while separated and makes reunion much easier. I'll attach some photos here. (I didn't try this but seen some youtube videos of people using shower curtain covers, they also meet the requirements)

That’s not what I’m asking though I’m asking if I should move him to the C&c right away once it’s built or keep him in the dog kennel for longer for bonding time with me

that's up to u tho and how much free time u have😅 and if u want him to be less skittish around u there are plenty of tips of u read the pinned threads in this forum, especially the ones about guinea pig whispering.

I’m gonna go read some more of them but yeah I definitely want him less skittish cause I can barely catch him right now

Piggy whispering as mentioned above. Works a treat. I would put him next to your girl so he can still interact with her. Nothing can replace that, not even you spending all the time with him. Just make sure each side is big enough for one piggy.

Thanks and yeah the whole cage will be like 24.5 sq feet so each one will have like 12 sq feet to them selves until he can be neutered and until she’s off pregnancy watch

Hi!

Please move him next to the other piggies for company through the bars but make sure that he cannot wiggle through the dividing grids, climb or jump over them. Guinea pigs are group animals; when they are away from their own kind, they will feel even more vulnerable and exposed.

Ok thanks yeah right now the 12 sq ft dog kennel is split with him in a big plastic tote so each have about 6 sq ft which I know is not enough but both were supposed to be female so the 12 sq ft woulda been more than enough until the c&c was built the females skittish but I can atleast catch her easy and hold her for a bit and can weigh her

Here are our hands-off weighing tips, which you may find helpful especially with a pregnant sow: How To Pick Up And Weigh Your Guinea Pig Safely

Your piggies can cope with a smaller space temporarily until the dust has settled re. babies and neutering. ;)

Thanks I figure at the least he will get weighed at the vet Tuesday but I have been able to weigh her and she’s 5-6 months old and 782 grams

I use a plastic gardening bowl to weigh the guinea pigs if they squirm around too much in my hands.
Give them a string of coriander every time you put them in there and they'll remember the experience as "food" moment and get used to it over time, I use it to put them back to their cage without too much touching. Hope these tips help
