Hi all

Being new to boar Guinea pigs I just wanted to check my adopted boys are suited and the person I adopted them from could only guess they were a year and half old.
I am seeing both rumble strutting and them going nose to nose and the occasion squeal or teeth chater. Either one may move off or run away.
I am currently watching them now both laying down within about a foot of each other. They also will eat next to each other but maybe bully into each other's bowls
I haven't seen any grooming of each other, bum sniffing or humping I just want to make sure they are happy together

Everytime piggies get a new territory (cage etc) they need to establish their heirachy.

Hi!

How long have you have them? It sounds like normal post-bonding dominance behaviour for boars setting up their own group hierarchy in new territory.

You will find the detailed information in these two links here helpful to learn to understand what your boars need/how you can stabilise their bond and learn how to interpret interactive guinea pig behaviours in their situational context:

How long have you had them? It sounds positive so far and perhaps just a bit of dominance going on
I adopted them on this forum around 3 weeks ago, she advised they were brothers however to me they are completely different breeds but I may be wrong Cream is pure white long haired and is most likely a Peruvian and Cookie is short haired. Best pictures I have so far are on here https://www.theguineapigforum.co.uk/threads/introducing-cookie-cream.172622/#post-2320982
The lady said that they were around a year and half old and there was food aggression however I haven't seen this as both will eat to next to each other and nose dive into each others but no signs of the rumble strut or yawning just guessing they both don't want to miss the best veggies in the bowls. I have 1 hay rack which they both use happily together

Hi!

It sounds perfectly normal to me. They are gorgeous boys!

Siblings can be different breeds - and none may look like any of their parents!

These are my adopted triplet litter sisters who between them sport each a different combination of two out of three breeds.

Here is a picture of a highly pregnant local sow which I emergency holiday boarded last year; she promptly had her babies within 24 hours of her arrival! As you can see, blonde auntie and black mum do not look anything like the three boys, one of which is a completely different breed from his brothers AND his mum!
