Hi, so, my Guinea pigs ( Fern and Caramel ) are very close at the moment, and don’t want to be apart. When I am holding Fern, and she is right next to Caramel, she is ok. However, when I take Fern to the kitchen, to the sofa etc, she freaks out, and starts to run around, and call for her friend. Does anyone know how to resolve this?
Thanks xx

Hi! Best pick them up together and have a joint cuddling session. Young guinea pigs in new surroundings can feel very frightened and lost.
The more you can avoid predatory behaviours, respect your piggies' prey animal instincts and use their own body language to assure them and interact with them, the better.

Please accept that trust needs to time to make deep roots before it can flourish. It is not a quick process. Contrary to the unthinking assumption that guinea pigs are living cuddly toys, they are their own species and not born as pets.

Please take the time to read the guide in our settling in and making friends section; you will find them extremely helpful as they help you to understand and to interact in ways that make total sense to your piggies instead of expecting them to learn to understand human behaviour and language quicker than you theirs... ;)
