Hey guys I'm new to the forum and I'm also kinda new to piggys too..I have 2 of them clifford i got from my girlfriend and one i bought from the store which is turtle..What i want to know is whats the best way for me to bond with them..if i make a move the both run around and try to hide. Also What is this hopping deal i see out of clifford. Why doesnt turtle make much noise at all? I know these are alot of questions that I'm sure have been posted before but i wasnt sure where to look. So if you guys have any tips ideas to what this could be i would really appericate it.

i want to be able to walk in the room and have them not run from me i want to let them run and do what they want but also hang with me i guess..does this all take time whats the best way for it..

AGain thanks

Brandon

Hi Brandon, I'm fairly new to this piggy lark too, I got my first pig in late October and he was really skittish and hid almost constantly. I took him out daily and tried to hold him on my lap but he'd pee and poo immediately (perhaps telling me to put him down!) and wriggle and try and escape. I persevered and when I let him out for a run around the hall, I always sat with him to get him used to me and offered him food. Within a month he would come and sit on my lap and now he loves being out for a cuddle and will jump all over me when I'm sat there! I have another piggie now and he's the same as Pudding was, even more scared actually, but every day I see improvements and he will let me pet him now without flinching.

So, I'd say it's just time and giving them lots of attention until they get used to you.

hi Brandon with pigs especially they need time to get to relax around new surroundings before they become your friends, if I open my pigs sheds with out saying its me or if they dont hear me then I appear they all jump and hide its a natural reaction,
to help I would suggest wrap them in a small towel and walk about or sit and chat to them wrapped up, firstly stroking their nose and head gradually after a week or so do away with the towel ( it makes them feel more secure) and always approach them gently and maybe call them so they are not frightened , most pigs dont like their rumps touched until they can trust you, so keep it under the chin and on their head and behind their ears for a while one of mine if i tickle him under the chin will fall over he lifts his head so high, he just loves it,
food is another great friend maker especially veggies mine adore cucumber so I keep it for special occasions of for in hot weather ( high water content)
the hopping you mentioned sounds to me like popcorning its a way of them letting you know they are happy they jump and twist at the same time ( lambs do it in the fields), its great thing to see becasue you know you are making them happy, so you are one step there already, good luck and take your time

agree with Michelle :) It certainly sounds like one of them is popcorning meaning he is happy :)

Gently does it and time is of the essence for them to get used to you :)

And before you know it they will be wheeking ( a high pitched whistle they do when they want or think they're going to get food!) when you walk into the room and running up to the front of the cage and giving you little piggy licks and nuzzling into your neck, and you'll be smitten :) Welcome to the forum :)
