Hello so I been having a problem lately with my two guinea pigs. My black guinea pig has been doing this purring noise none stop to the other guinea pig. I tried getting them a bigger cage and separating them for a bit but once there back together it just happens all over again. I was wondering why all a sudden they are doing this after a year of being together.

Spring time and hormones I expect. Gdtting a bigger cage is a good plan. Hope they settle down soon. No need to separate them as it msy be stessful for them.

Sounds like one is rumblestrutting your pig is showing dominance my top pig is always doing that

I have two Midwest guinea pig cages put together. They used to only have one but it wasn't enough room. Do you think midnight will stop this? I feel bad for gibbles because she seems so scared.

Does sound like hormones are they male or female?

Rumbling this way is a sign of dominance. It can be hormonally driven if one of them is in heat. Some sows get very moody when they are in heat, and some are completely normal but every once in a while have a particularly strong season and get grumpy. It's a normal dominance behavior and there is no need to separate them unless they physically fight and draw blood (if you separate them and then reintroduce, you may just end up with more dominance behavior because they have to reestablish the pecking order.) They are very likely to sort this out themselves given space and time. One of my pigs was a real pain in the butt when hormones were flowing... but her cagemate always forgave her later on!

Ok, thank you so much. It was going on for awhile and I didn't understand what midnight was doing.
