Hello! I recently bonded my two male guinea pigs , and seeing some stuff worries a new piggie mommy.
In the initial meeting, there was humping and chasing of course. But, they did settle down quite a bit.
However, my little Oreo likes to rumble strut and start chasing my ginger every once and awhile when ginger is a curious pig and comes up to Oreo.
They eat together, drink and even slept together in a bed last night, so I’m not sure what to do or expect ? Should I try separating them and starting over ?8931C907-CBE6-450C-ADEE-5B5AFAD44203.webp

Hi!

What you are seeing is perfectly normal mild dominance behaviour for the post-bonding dominance phase in which a hierarchical group is established and cemented.
Please take the time to read this illustrated guide here. You may find it very helpful: Bonding and Interaction: Illustrated social behaviours and bonding dynamics

Thank y’all. It feels pretty good knowing I didn’t do anything wrong !
I just hope Oreo settles down a little more as he gets used to ginger. Ginger had been running and popcorning so I don’t think he’s too bothered!

My brother pigs (6 months old) are the same. Oggie is nearly constantly rumble strutting, although it is dying down now and it really only seems to be when he’s excited. His brother Finn either completely ignores him, or starts doing laps and popcorning too, so as long as there isn’t any lunging/one of them looking depressed/food hoarding, sounds like a typical hormonal man to me!

How cute that they slept together. They must like each other! ☺️
