With bonfire night approaching, that means loud fireworks. Now, my guinea pigs are outdoors and I fear going to them in the morning to find them scared. Currently, there are load's of fireworks, and before I feed them, I was thinking, can I get tips on how to calm them down ect.
I will appreciate any tips x

Could you bring them in when the displays are on or on fireworks night itself?

No ;_; My brother may to allergic to them. I'm moving them into a shed, but that is in 4 weeks. Plus, we don't have room in the house for them.

When I was younger we used to keep our guineas outside, we would put a heavy cover over the hutch and tons of hay for them to hide in, the cover was loose so they could still breath!

Thank you x I always got so nervous when it comes to bonfire night.

The piggies dont seem to notice!
Its the dogs I worry about. I have music on for them and the curtains and blinds tightly closed so maybe a thick cover would help as suggested?

My piggies don't seem to mind the noise - it's all the smoke I don't like . Mine are in a shed and I keep all the windows shut on bonfire night .

Janice, I used a plug in phenomenal spray calmed my dogs down nicely. It's at the vets & pets at home.
If your going to use it you need to get it now, so it gets in there system but you CAN'T use it in the same room as the piggies.

Tried plug ins before but find dogs are OK as long as we are at home with them. Not keen on fireworks so doesn't matter if I miss any displays! Thanks anyway. xx

Mine are completely unfazed by the fireworks. I was spending time watching them last night while a ton were let off over the road and they didn't even flinch just carried on doing their thing

I hate fireworks, even though my hubby spent years with them. I used to worry when he was on a display. Personally I think it should be banned, unless it's an organised display. I'm sure all of us have had to put up with teenagers letting them off in the street.

One of mine is really startled by every bang, the other is startled at first then gets used to it and goes back to doing her own thing. Mine are living indoors, but there are a lot of open spaces around here and several really loud organised displays. I usually leave them in their indoor run most of the time unless I'm away overnight or cleaning the run, in which case they go into the cage. This week, once it gets dark and they've had their dusk-time crazies, I've been putting them into the cage, with tons of hay, including hay stuffed into cardboard tunnels, so they can burrow in and nest, feeling snug, secure and contained. It seems to work. In the run, my biggest girl jumps and runs from hidey to hidey in a mad scramble with every bang. She's far more settled snugged into a tunnel and surrounded with warm hay.
