Have posted this in guinea pig chat as this causes me concerns about my guinea pigs. Those of you that have read my previous posts will know that I have recently got an outdoor hutch. I would prefer to have my guinea pigs indoors but have to respect that my OH thinks they should be outside.
Well, this evening , after I had settled them down, and OH & I were enjoying the evening, 3 people in close vicinity lit bonfires. OH went in and closed all the windows, moaning about carcinogens and dioxins. The air was acrid. I was very distressed about my guina pigs being out in such an atmosphere . Fortunately, OH finally agreed that I could bring them in. I only have a small indoor cage but it will have to do ovenight.
Does anyone else have a problem with bonfires? I 'd like to hear your views.

Personally I dont have a problem with them in my area and i have burned them safely in a pit in my garden whilst the piggies have been out. Their hutch has always been protected from any smoke. It also depends on what you burn. If they were burning things that turned the air so much i'd be worrying. And yes obviously with a larger bonfire there is a risk but i'm not worried about my little pit. my garden is big though so they aren;t even near it.

These were 3 big bonfires and the air was still so not much of the smoke or fumes were going away. Not on this occasion , but on previous occasions I have seen people burn some dubious things on their bonfires - things like the packaging from deliveries - including the polystyrene. It was rank out there !
