Hey all,

Our 2 year old boar Fizz sadly recently lost his friend Oscar.

We've found another adult boar named Diego to join Fizz, we're getting him from the local rabbit/guinea pig rescue. We're getting him in a week and a half - the centre we're getting him from have just brought in a new policy of castrating their male piggies, and will also do Diego before we get him.

The guinea pigs and rabbits all share the same room in the rescue. Diego has been there for over 6 months. We are a little concerned about the risk of bordetella. Do you think it would be a good idea to quarantine Diego before he joins Fizz? Diego is clearly healthy, we were just a bit worried he may be carrying it, and potentially passing it on to Fizz?

Here are the piggies in question..

It is always recommended that you quarantine any new piggies over four months in a different room. So I would say yes to doing that. I’d also book him an appointment with the vet a week after he’s been home. Just for a general check.

I hope he’s fit as a fiddle and can join Fizz once he’s let out.
