Hi my 3 guinea pigs have been diagnoised with potentially having bordetella after the introduction of 2 new pigs. my pigs are about 5 years old and have previously been really healthy

they have been started on zithromax (which can cause depression and inappetance) one is on metacam and they are also being supplemented with vit c.

they are all fairly bright, but not eating as much as they normally do- they noramlly have a big pile of veggies at night and the last 3 nites they have probably eaten less than half!

i have now seperated them (not sure if a good idea of not) so i can monitor there eating and also one has blood in thier urine.

has anyone had any experience with bordetella? or any advice would be greatly appreciated as am worried about my pigs!

If they all have bordatella i wouldnt seperate them as they all have it. If they are together then they will help each other to eat.

I dont know a huge amount about it in piggies, but bordatella is the same type of virus that causes kennel cough in dogs and cat flu in cats. What are there symptoms? Treating it symptomatically is the best i would say. Have you got any pro biotics?

x.
