i've read about guinea pigs getting bordetella from rabbits and now i'm worried. my two rabbits both have pasturella and are on medication for it. it is now stable but i'm worried for my new piggie and whether i should even get him now.
he's coming here on thursday and i really want him but if it will mean he's at risk then obv this isn't the best thing for him.
our house is small, and we only have one main room downstairs, the lounge, then a kitchen off that and the stairs. so the rabbits cage is in the lounge and gingers will be aswell.
thanks.

just rang the rescue i'm adopting ginger from and they're ringing their vets to find out the risks etc.

thought people on here would have a better idea.

thanks, i would never want to put an animal at risk :)

i've been reading up alot on it but i'm confused! people say so many different things!

spoke to my vet who is a small animal exotics specialist and he said it is a very small risk but this would be a small risk if it was cats or dogs aswell. anytime any different animals are kept in the same space, play in the same garden, even if it separate runs etc, the risk is there.

he said it's ok for us to get ginger and there would be no more risk than if anyone else housed him as my buns snuffles are clear now.

i've told the rescue everything and they're going to decide and let me know. i don't know if they will allow us to adopt him but we shall see.

this is the opinion of the exotics vet and he's fantastic so i am inclined to trust what he's said. obviously there are many different opinions though. :)
