Hey guys, update on Boris and some potential new problems :(

Boris recovered well from his op, didn't fuss over his stitches apart from the initial few times he did (which I posted about in my previous thread) He finished his AB's and Metacam a few days ago and all seems pretty good. For those who didn't see the previous thread, the vet thought the lump was possibly a soft tissue sarcoma but couldn't say without a biopsy (which is too much for me to currently afford).

He has however lost about 100g throughout the entire process, quite steadily. He's maintaining around 1kg, so I'm hoping it was just the AB's robbing him of his appetite.

He had his stitches out last night, wound is very nice and clean looking and the vet was really pleased with it (not our usual piggy loving vet, who was busty with an emergency euthanasia :( ). However, the baggy skin left from the lump removal began to gradually fill with liquid a number of days after his op, which the vet did say was to be expected somewhat.

It has gotten steadily more fluid filled, and is now rather firm because it is so full. The vet felt it and said she didn't think it was the tumor regrowing already, rather a normal bodily reaction to the empty space and possibly the stitches. She said keep and eye on it for a week or two, and if it's still there to take him back to investigate further. Although she seems to think it will disperse itself.

I'm now super worried it is another tumor, back already :( I've got everything crossed it is just fluid that will disperse, I hope for Boris's sake it is!

Anyone had experience of this after tumor removal? Thanks again guys

Yes, I've had very similar. Violet had a lump removed from her groin about 2 weeks ago and it did seem to do exactly the same. I chose not to have her lump sent to the lab as it's not the money issue but the fact that I won't put her through further invasive surgery or invasive treatment again. Our vet said same as yours. The swelling has dispersed itself in Violets case but if you are worried about Boris you can always take him back for a further check. Hugs. It's so worrying when our piggies have these issues.

Very comforting to hear, thank you VickiA! I was contemplating having it sent and being short on money this month but decided the outcome wouldn't change. If it was anything nasty I'd rather not know, and like you I wouldn't have another op done to remove anymore because he's getting on a bit. Glad I'm not the only one with that thought process!

Happy to report though that the lump is smaller by quite a bit this morning, and he has gained about 20g back :) It is so worrying, happy to hear your girl Violet is doing well x

This can frequently happen. It's called a seroma and is just fluid filling a gap. It should decrease steadily and disappear in time! xx

Ahh brilliant! It is already disappearing so hopefully won't be long until he can be signed off as 100% fit and healthy from the vets! xx

Hello again guys, quick question, are seroma's normally firm? The lump is decreasing in size still, just feels a tad hard to be fluid. May take him to the vet tomorrow just to check it isn't an abscess

Not sure tbh. In my experience abscesses don't usually get smaller - they increase or start same size. However could it be some thickening from scar tissue? If in doubt check it out is usually my motto !
