When Connie had bladder issues and then Eliza, I swapped tap water for bottled water. Eleanor and Eliza have been drinking it for nearly 2 years now and Erin and Ena have always drank bottled water since they came to live with me.

I brought a filter jug the other week as it was a bargain £5 and am just wondering if I could switch to using filtered water or should I stick with the bottled mineral water? I don't want to rock the boat.

We have just started using filtered water too.

This is a subject I'm always really torn on. :{

I live in an incredibly hard water area, and have had years of bladder issues with my piggies, although I've always given them filtered water. I have had two people recommend bottled water (Vedra from the CCT and also an exotics vet in Essex ). Cassie has been on Deeside water, which is low in minerals, since October, but I've not seen any real benefit.

I've recently changed to a glass bottle, since I'm concerned about plastics chemicals leaking into the water, so I figure that feeding bottled water is a bit pointless! I've therefore just switched back to filtered water.

One thing I do find is that the filters don't last anywhere near 4 weeks in a very hard water area. They are expensive, but still cheaper than Deeside bottled water - especially if you pick up on supermarket offers and stockpile a bit!

I know that bottled mineral water can be bad, due to the minerals in it, but if yours have been fine on it then it must be ok. Filtering the water would definitely save on money though. I would have thought it would be fine :).

Am I the only one who gives my piggies tap water? ?/

I never knew that tap water could be bad for them :...

Don't worry. Most people give tap water :) I only changed mine to bottled water when I had 2 pigs with bladder issues. I have just always kept up with it and am just wondering if I will be OK to change from bottled to filter water.

Tap water ISN'T bad. I think sometimes hard water tap water 'may' cause problems but that has never been proved. Don't worry xx

I meant to say in my last post, that I looked into mineral and spring waters a while ago. Basically, mineral waters are much better regulated than spring waters, and are therefore regularly tested for their mineral content (to check it is consistent with the label), and their bacteria content etc. Not to say that the cheaper spring waters (with no mineral content on the label) are unsafe, but it's just worth being aware of.
