Hi, i have a guinea pig staying with me and the other day i noticed hes bum was sort of sticky. Its hard 2 explain, i guess it kinda looked greasy.

What do i do? is it a problem?

its hard 2 explain!

Hi.

Has your guinea got runny poo? If it has then it could be having too many veggies/fruit.

nope not runny poops.

hes just got like a greasy back end n then bits of the fur have gone hard

I'm not completely familiar with this but my guess would be that it is to do with the grease gland. All I can suggest is for you to wash the guinea in warm water to try and get rid of the hard bits and dry her with a hair dryer but not completely. I would be reluctant to wash the guinea if under 6 months old. I hope someone else might be able to help you. I'll see if I can find out any more info.

I found this info on the www.petergurney.com

I hope it helps

GREASE GLAND

Boars have a grease gland at the base of their rumps, which sometimes seems to over produce, making the coat on the rear end very greasy. Apart from making them unpleasant to handle, this grease can attract parasites so it is a good policy to keep this over-production under control.

Grease glands often do this fairy liquid botom wash or some people use swarfega, perfectly natural just needs some cleaning :)
