My guinea pigs seem constantly hungry, I have tried them on the recommended diet that we were given, handful of pellets once a day, veggies twice a day and good supply of hay and always water but it never seems to be enough. The more I give them the more they squeak for more! Am I being too soft? Or do you think they should be getting more? The last thing I want to do is overfeed them as I know how easy that is to do.

They will eat as much as you give them in my experience and still wheek for more because they have figured out it gets them food! I for one cannot resist their begging. It is like a baby's cry - must, must respond. And now I have the dog on my case. If they wheek, she runs to the cage and if I'm not right behind her she comes to get me and won't leave me alone until I go to them. Mine get vegies twice a day as well. But they would wheek for more the minute they finished their dishes. So, I give them 2 serves at each sitting by splitting the normal serve in half. So far, that has worked brill and they only wheek after the first serve. Occasionally though, they get the munchies about 10pm and set up their wheeking. I'll throw in a bit of cos lettuce and a few carrot batons and it seems to satisfy.

I have never known a piggy to be full and turn down food unless they are ill! My boys will wheek at every rustle of a bag or open of the fridge door and if you fed them everytime you went past the cage they would be very happy.

I feed them veg in two portions a day at breakfast and tea time, feed hay on demand and other bits as a treat. They get out on the floor or the grass fairly regularly and run off a lot of food that way.

As far as I can tell all guineas are bottomless pits!

A guinea pig is just a tube, they fill - they empty :))

Saw something on facebook which said that the most active black holes in the universe are in guinea pigs' tummies!
