Hi all,

Anyone else got a bowl-dragger?!

Robin does this all the time when I feed him. It's a heavy ceramic one but he's able to pull it with his teeth and drag it across the cage before feeding. I've had to take his bridge house out because he kept dragging it underneath and wasn't able to lay there and I couldn't feed him properly.

Clip-on bird bowls were an idea but the cage base is too high so he'd never be able to reach inside. Another alternative I was going to try was one of those dog bowls with rubber non-slip feet which I can look into tomorrow but he'd likely drag that as well.

He's very strong too, I've held it back a few times as I've put food in (because he's dragged it before I've put food in it, making me drop it all over the base) and the power he has in his skull is incredible.

He also bites at the bowl before feeding as well so I wondered if it was his teeth. He's had toys to gnaw on and he doesn't have any obvious problem with his teeth so I'm curious if its more a psychological problem.

Does anyone else have a paranoid pig like this?!

My Penelope flips the hay trough over and then drags it around. I always tell OH that Penelope has redecorated again. The trough is a corner one and is supposed to be able to screw in place but the base is too tall, like yours. OH keeps saying he is going to drill holes in it so I can screw it in place but he hasnt done it yet. *eyeroll*

Sundae drags the bowl around too. Hers is also pretty heavy and ceramic. Until I saw her do it, I thought she was pushing it with her head but now having observed her at it for years I can tell you she grabs it in her teeth and walks backwards with it. She likes to drag it into the pigloo so she can eat in privacy!

So glad Robin isn't the only nut-case! :))

I'm always worried he'll break his teeth one of these days dragging it across the cage. He broke one once when biting the bars in their run so I'm concerned how easily they could break and cause problems for him.

I bought ceramic ones, to stop tipping, but also bought 2 very very cheap plastic ones once as spares(I'm a worrier, i have spares of everything) Occasionally i put their veg in the flimsy plastic one, they never attempt to move it. :)

I have golden piggies in the redecorating respect... Shame they arnt as good in other areas. :))

Anyway, my point is, if hes just going to play with it anyway, you might as well have a cheap plastic one he has no chance of hurting himself on, or alternativly forget about the bowl all together and scatter the pellets for him to find :)

I was thinking about not bothering with a bowl, but I may look for a new one first today when I'm out.

My male Genghis loves standing on the edge of his ceramic bowl and tipping it over. He seems to prefer to eat off the floor :))

lol sounds amusing! :))
I don't know about bowl dragging but if tipping is an issue try one of these:

I bought mine from pets at home many years ago, was about £1.40 back then and not only has it lasted nearly about 8 years, no pig has managed to tip it :(|)

My girl drags and tips over her bowl. I had the bowl tied up to the cage for a while and it stopped. Recently I gave her back full control of her dishes. It's fun to watch then drag them around the cage
