bowl size

hi, how big should the diameter of a pellet bowl be? would 7,5 cm be big enough?

Hi

We recommend to feed only 1 tablespoon of pellets per piggy per day and to sprinkle those pellets around the cage to encourage natural foraging behaviours for enrichment purposes. A bowl is often used as a toilet rather than a food larder.

It is best to feed veg and pellets only in portions that can be eaten in one sitting in order to encourage your guinea pigs to eat as much hay (or additional fresh growing grass once carefully introduced) as possible in the meantime - hay is after all the food that your piggies should eat most of.

:agr:

I don’t use bowls and instead I scatter feed veg and pellets amongst large piles of hay

As above though, if you choose to use bowls then regardless of what bowl size you use, they should only have one tablespoon of pellets per pig per day anyway

I scatterfeed pellets and my girls love running around and finding them. Also I scatter feed the veg. The only thing that gets served in a bowl is dried forage.

oh okay, so no food bowls! This might be a dumb question but if i have 2 pigs how do i make sure both of them get same amount of food when scatter feeding?

They have a better chance at the getting the same amount than from a bowl because the dominant piggy will usually get a little bit more - even if you use a bowl per piggy.

Do remember though that hay is the most important part of the diet, pellets the least important. As long as there is always a few piles of fresh hay then no piggy will be hungry

I use two bowls for their two tablespoons of nuggets. The tiny portion looks really silly in the bowl. Lol. I remove the bowls once the nuggets are gone. Which doesn’t usually take long.
