Boxy - ?renal failure

Poor Boxy, so sad how quickly he has went down hill :(. Healing vibes for Boxy! x

He's still fairly bright, I left him at my mums tucking into some super expensive oxbow hay (seems weird having a sick piggy who still eats!) but he's just not shifting this fluid.

I left him in his carrier for an hour so I could see what his wees and poos were like, while I took the dog out and he'd got worse in that hour fluid build up wise.

The vet gave him a jab of diuretic on top of what he's having orally so I'll see how he is tomorrow morning but I'm not expecting miracles. My mum is under strict instructions to take him to the vet day or night if his breathing deteriorates.

He has an appointment at around 5pm tomorrow (can't remember the exact time) but I can take him sooner if needed :{

On a brighter note, and the decision to have him put to sleep if he doesnt improve is nothing to do with money, There's no denying that over £3000 of vets bills in the last 6 months (I earn £250 a month) has crippled me financially, the vet hasn't been charging me anything other than drug costs. He's such a nice guy, he's the vet that I first had work experience with 10 years ago but at this rate he'll destroy his business!

any news hon?

Not yet, I just realised I left my phone in the car all night :...

Well either that or I've lost it!

Just going to go down and get it now. I'm supposed to be in uni this morning, I think I'm going to risk my degree (I'm on the verge of being kicked out through non-attendance!) and go see how he is.

Just come to see him, there's been no improvement. While I don't think the fluid has got worse, or at least not hugely, he seems quite painful today and is all puffed up, eyes are quite sunken and he's just alternating between drinking and eating cucumber flesh all the time.

I think it's time 8...

I'm so sorry, going through exact same thing with my Johnny today. Vets at 6 tonight.

Bladder stone but it is too high up to remove and he is too frail for the op, looking like end stage renal failure and/or heart failure too. He is on top end pain relief and it's not helping him so we have some decisions to make.

Aww poor Johnny :(

Why do these pigs do it to us?!

I know, we knew he was ill but it's still a massive shock to realise just how ill he is. Sat with him until 3.30am this morning with him just cuddled up to me as close as he could get, Johnny doesn't normally do cuddles.

I'm so sorry about Boxy.

Oh no Amanda. I am so upset to hear he has not improved. I really hope things can change.

Oh no, so sorry to hear he's got worse! Thinking of you both!

Very sorry to read he's not any better - sadly sometimes it's time to say goodbye :(. My thoughts are with you, I know both you and Helen will do right by both your boys.

Huge hugs, such a horrible situation. X

I'm so so sorry, you've got me in tears here! Huge hugs, it's so hard losing your pets. We're all thinking of you xxxxxx

Thanks guys.

It was certainly the right decision. He was painful today which he hasn't been previously, the fluid build up was worse this morning than yesterday evening, and in the last half an hour to two hours before we went to the vets, he wasn't urinating properly and was reluctant to eat. This suggests that his kidneys had, or were on the verge of failing completely. I could have tried him on another medication, but quite frankly, I wasn't willing to allow him to suffer while waiting to see if it worked or not.

Sleep tight Boxy x>>

Awwww Amanda I am soooo sorry :0

Ive been dying to get home to see how he was, was hoping for good news. :Ayociexp118:

((HUGS))

RIP Little Boxy
