Boy or Girl?

Well ive never had any female piggys but one of my boys Pepper likes to lie down when i hold him and he really enjoys being cuddled! :)

I've only ever had boys but I think they are far more affectionate than my friends girl piggies. I may be a tad biased though. :p

Ooh that's an easy one - boys every time. All my favourite and most characterful, affectionate pigs have all been boys.

As I spent the first few weeks thinking that I had 2 boys mallethead I always found Mouse to be the cuddlier of the 2 with Rabbit prefering to stay in the cuddle sack. Rabbit turned out to be a little girlie, so I would say that my boy is the cuddlier of the 2.

None of my boys are much for cuddles. By my sow Rocket is the most snuggly affectionate piggie ever. I cant comment on the boars i suppose, ive had more sows than boars. But I love both.

My first piggie spike was a boy and he was such a softy. A real sweetheart. Since him I've only had girls, most of which are bossy little madams :)) but my newest baby girl Rio is very affectionate. She just loves cuddles and attention. So I think it depends on the piggie.

I've got Peter with 3 wives... Peter is the cuddliest pig ever hehe he loves snuggles

Definatly boars, they seem to almost adopt us humans and Theo is a little minx and his favourite snuggle spot is curled into my chest:x Cheeky monkey

Boys, no question!

Darwin is incredibly affectionate - he loves giving kisses and stretching out and dozing under my chin. Ok, so my other boys aren't quite as soppy as him, but they all love snuggling more than the girls! :))

My boys have always been more tame than my girls. Montogmery in particular was so tame, he spent most of his time free ranging and would follow me around the house. My girls have always been more skittish. I dont think I would say I favoured one sex over the other, each have their own personality and I love my shy girls as much as my boistrous boys, thats why i always like to have two boys and at least two girls (now three).

I have only ever had girls and two of my pigs are cuddlier than the other two. I would love a big chunky boar one day (but little miss Eleanor won't except one in to the group)

I have some really cuddly and loving sows. I have only had one boar so far and he was very cuddly and loving eventually but not more so than the girls. I have two girls that are more like dogs than guineas and will come when called, will curl up on my lap, lay down to be stroked in the cage, and generally love human interaction. I think its the individual rather than the sex of the piggy? Personally though I think a mix (single boar clearly!) is the very best way to have guineas.

I've only ever had boars so can't really comment but generally they're all cuddly. The only one I have that isn't is Angus who will tolerate a quick fuss but prefers to be off rampaging around the floor causing chaos....

I find my 2 boys and more loveing that the girls, the girls are moody and one (abby) is skittish! Peppa and Poppy will have a fuss and a love when it suits them they tend to nip if the dont want the attention :(.

My boyfriend has a girl piggy, she's really sweet to humans but hates other guinea pigs xD I've also seen other girl piggies who do this.

My guinea pig is a boy and he is a bundle of energy, he loves everyone and everything.

Overall I noticed that boys tend to warm up to anyone while girls are picky, but they are both very affectionate ^__^

I have sows and boars. My boars are over all a lot more affectionate, my 3 girls have never really liked being cuddled, although they don't mind sitting on my knee as long as some veg is available lol

I have to say, it's my anti-social sow who loves cuddles the most. All of my pigs (3 sows, 1 boar) love snuggle time, but Rose actively seeks human attention (ironic, given that when I rehomed her, she was really scared and timid). That said, all 4 piggies pancake on me. For noises, boars are awesome (I love rumblestruts) but it's more about pigsonality than gender.

Boris is by far my most laid back pig, but Willow (girl) loves cuddles just as much. As do Marmite and Hettie (both girls) once they've settled.

Nothing seems to phase Boris and you can do almost anything tohim without him making a peep :)

I've only ever had sows, but my girls are definitely more affectionate than my friend's boars. Our two always squeak and come out ready for their food in the mornings and evenings and when cuddled they snuggle up and lay down. :)

You're all so friendly and helpful on here. Thanks very much.
I've got a Ferplast 120 cage and have been told, on good authority, that it's better suited to sows who won't need quite as much space to avoid each other as boars. They will have time out of the cage too, loads of loving time and free running. So with that in mind I was looking at a pair of rescue sows.
I was beginning to wonder if I was doing the right thing, especially with so many needy boars out there, until the owners of sows have now said they can be just as loving!
It also says in the Guinea Pig Magazine that for a first time owner a pair of sows is probably better.
Looks like I'll be on my way to Allan for my new additions to the family before too much longer! :)

Mainly, you want to ensure that the pair get on really well...regardless of sex. I mean, obviously the SAME sex, or a neutered pair. Best of luck!

my boys sit n let me cuddle them

ive always had boys tho, i had male hamsters because ive always been told females are more hormonal and aggrassive but i dont no if thats the same for piggies

BOYS...!

Some of the boys i have in at the min are amazing...!
I find boys way more forgiving and loving...!
and they like to be cuddled more than girls... :))

You often read that boars are meant to be more friendlier and loving but I think it's all down to the pigsonality! I must admit I only have one boar (and he is my first), he is super cuddly once he is out of his cage and loves chin rubs but Dottie is amazingly friendly! She runs up to you when you talk to her and will lay flat out with two chicken legs poking out when you stroke her in the cage. She's got such a lovely 'pigsonality' and is a very bold piggy!

Mabel on the other hand only rarely lets you stroke her in the cage, she doesn't mind cuddles once she's out but she will not let me give her any chin rubs and is quite highly strung! :))

This is exactly why I love piggies though, they each have something special about them!

I've only ever had sows & they have all had different personalities. Poppy died last year aged 7 & she was very loving, whereas our first sow used to bite us :...

Of our current 3, Daisy (aka Princess lol) in my avatar is going to be our "special" piggy I think. Like Dottie she comes up to us for food, will let us stroke her whilst she is lying down, etc & she even talks to me (yes really!) purrs when stroked as well x)

I think as long as they are a well bonded pair & not too nervous they will be perfect for you whatever sex they are rolleyes
