hello. Two new piggies joined our family today to fill a gap after sudden passing of our beloved dog. One, I am sure is a boy but can you let me know your thoughts on the second one?

While I’m here I’d also like to ask, when we start handling them do we need to make sure we treat them fairly and take them out the cage at the same time? Thank you, wise people.

I'm not an expert but I only get about half a second to quickly glimpse at the photo in the link above before it says it's unavailable so I'll leave it the the experts to let you know. You need to observe your boys (if you have 2 boys) and take out the more dominant one first to respect their hierarchy.

Yes now I can see his bits properly, it's a boy. Can you feel a penis ridge if you press VERY gently from side to side along his tummy just above the button?

Betsy, thank you for your reply. I have now re uploaded the image.

Hi and welcome

This is definitely a boar with fully descended testicles, so he must be 6 months or over. You can compare him with the pictures of fully descended boars in our sexing guide:
Illustrated Sexing Guide

Here is our guide on boar care for their downbelow: Boar Care: Bits, Bums & Baths

And here is our new owners' helpful information collection although we are here for any questions that may crop up as an integral part of any learning process: Getting Started - Essential Information for New Owners

PS: We recommend to upload any pictures via the Attach Files button by your post when you write it; this works for everybody - poster and reader.
This friendly forum is not part of social media (we go back to before social media took off), which means that - apart from UK online regulations - we have got full control over our place. The price is that photo upload is a bit more cumbersome and videos need to be uploded on a public setting on a platform like youtube that doesn't require a membership sign-in before you can copy them across.

I found that leaving some old bedding behind on cage cleaning helps boars retain their bonding. They use scent to establish the hierarchy and it's best to clean half the cage at a time. Yes, they should go everywhere together as separation stresses their bond. They need two hideys with double entrances, and double water bottles and enough hay to easily access it without crowding. It's best to distribute food, including pellets so one can't block the other from eating. Welcome to the forum ❤🐾 Congratulations on your new boys 👍🏼🐾

Thank you so much everyone for the helpful replies and the warm welcome!
These boys come from pets at home and I went there a couple of times to look at the piggies and I have to say these two had little interest from the crowd as it seems people like the tri colour ones better. So I decided to buy them and give them a good life. I’ve been quietly reading this forum for a while now, so have a decent C&C cage for them with 3 hideys, 2 water bottles, some toys, I just need to buy plenty more hay and liners as they pee rather a lot!

Day two at home and they seem quite chilled - the cage is in the dining area of a kitchen, we’ve been coming and going and they don’t run and hide every time - so far so good!

In the shop I only ever saw them eating some green leaves. I will introduce cucumber tomorrow.
